I bought this Roku a few months ago and it definitely is not a good as the newer versions. It takes way more time to connect and I have thought about replacing it with a Roku 2 or better.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It has everything I need for streaming

I absolutely love, love it. A few years ago I bought a Samsung "Smart TV" and they are selective in what Apps they put on it. Well Roku has everything I need for Apps and more! It is great for the whole family. Lots of stuff for kids of all ages and great things to watch for adults!! It is simple to install and can be moved from TV to TV if necessary or for the price it is buy one for each TV. Don't buy a smart TV, this has more. I wish I would have known about it before I spent all that money on the TV. The remote is kept simple too, easy to use for any age. I can't say enough things good about this device, oh and it is small, you don't have a lot of space taken up with it. I think one day we will get rid of the DVD players and Roku will take over. well I'm ready!

We've had the roku for a couple of months now and haven't experienced any problems with it. Its so ready to use. I have even downloaded the roku remote app on my phone. We don't miss cable at all.

Simple and effective

I recently bought the Roku 1 to replace my Nintendo Wii and a Netflix device, basically. So far it has done the job really well and I'm enjoying the added channels--like PBS and History Channel--that I can find with the Roku. The interface is quick and responsive and I haven't had any trouble yet.
The primary reason the Roku did not get 5 stars is that the device supports wireless N, but only on 2.4Ghz. This is not stated in the materials anywhere. I had planned to use it on a 5Ghz network but had to rearrange my wireless setup to accommodate. Also, I do not like that the device does not turn off. I know that the manufacturer claims it uses a very small amount of electricity but I would still prefer the ability to turn it completely off.

got tire of spending my time on hold with Comcast to discuss my outrageous charges. And now saving 1400.00 a years is easy to handle. I am a I. T. tech and TV repair specialist telling everyone about ROKU!
