The unit has a lot of good ideas

I bought this some time a go. I waited a while to review because I wanted to see how good it works. At first it worked ok but was slow but I have A tele line thats slow but not all the problems are in that .the unit has sever problems also.

Does it's job

I bought the Roku since I'm in a location which is no where near "town" the nearest town is over an hour away. We have to pay for Dish network or Direct TV having to choose fr set packages that we can't pick and choose and the cost is not relevant to what we watch. I hear of the Roku and assumed that besides Netflix we'd be able to get all the other listed items- which is not true. I don't like having to go between the computer and Roku to try to get some channels and then find out we have to be subscribers of some of those channels like FOX to even get anything other than Netflix. Basically all we use are Netflix and Pandora. Nothing else is available due to me not paying for cable/dish TV services. Not what I thought it was going to actually be and a little disappointed I can't get all the channels listed.

Had it for a few months now. Learned a little along the way and love it. We watch the old TV series like Columbo, and movies too. Can't wait to try other stuff!

I bought our ROKU 1 about 10 months ago and am still recommending it to our Friends. It is so inexpensive and yet more complete than virtually all of the cable/satellite providers. This has to be the absolute way to view TV.

Can't live without my Roku!

Like so many people, I'd never heard of Roku. A friend upgraded and gave me his Roku -- which sounded too good to be true. It's all that and more. I'm so spoiled by it that I can't bear to watch Netflix DVDs or regular old streaming. It keeps track of where you left off and you just click on "Resume." If you have a good WiFi connection and router, you never ever have buffering. I recently discovered that there are many free offerings, such as on YouTube. (Check out "My Mad Fat Diary" -- 2 seasons, just great.) Tell everyone about it; they don't know what they're missing.

Great if you can't afford cable!!

We couldn't afford cable tv anymore so we put up an antenna. Well, we only got a very few choices UNTIL I got Roku! It's is how I watch tv now! Got quite a few movie choices, TV shows and some news too! Love it!

The wife and I jumped at the opportunity to disconnect our satellite tv. We read all the news we need and use the tv for entertainment, mostly movies, internet. With Roku combined with NetFlix we are happy campers. Our first two Roku units seemed a bit pricey but we thought worth it. They have improved greatly and the price has come down a lot. How often can one say that? We have two Roku 1's and like them very much. We don't see any changes we'll be making anytime soon.

What took me so long?

Bought this in January as an alternative to not having cable. This is going on my 3rd year without cable and have no idea why it took me so long to get this. Here I was connecting my laptop or phone to the TV, but this freed up my other pieces of technology. It connected seamlessly. Since my focus was mostly surrounded around using Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, I was not too bothered by the other 'channels' that seemed to be included but would have to also pay for those subscriptions. Encourage everyone to get one of these.
