I enjoy using the device and it is great overall. My grandson has it on his TV and he LOVES it. But the remote is no good. I have exchanged my roku twice and now it is out of warranty. Now the device is no good I cannot use it. Please make a better remote.

im so glad we brought ourROKU i was paying so much moneyfor cable i cut my cable bill in half by sending the dvr back turning off a loy of the higher channels now i can watch a lot of shows by streaming

Great for a media center with RCA plugs

While currently being used on an older 1080p with RCA to an older amp, it'll be a snap to switch to HDMI in the future.
Also works on a DSL (the only option here).

When the Roku 1 is working, it is a great device

The only reason I knock off a star for the Roku 1 is that my unit is prone to WiFi signal corrupted.
I thought my first Roku 1 device had gone bad, so sent it in for a replacement, but the new replacement unit had the very same WiFi problem. So I did some more testing, and I found that if I get the Roku unit far enough away from the entertainment center area, or perhaps the living room window next to that area, the Roku becomes fully functional again.
I do not know positively what the source of the WiFi interference is, but after testing, I know that it is not the cable box, and it is probably not the TV, or the DVD player, but something is definitely causing a problem for my Roku, unless I find a spot close to the router that is shielded from the problem area.
I strongly suspect that new cell phone towers in my neighborhood are the root of this problem. My Roku was working find before those towers went up.
Interestingly, none of my other WiFi devices have this signal interference problem. My laptop works just find in the same areas where the Roku will not work properly.
Because of this WiFi problem, I sure wish I could plug in a Ethernet cable directly into my Roku device. As it is now, I have to put the Roku in a very inconvenient place just (using a very long HDMI cable) so I can use it... but at least I did find a way to get the Roku working, reliably, again.
When the Roku 1 is working, it is a great device to have.

My box TV's are more than just trash.

I have a flat screen TV and a Roku for it and it's nice, but I've had this 19-inch box in the kitchen for years. I didn't want to get rid of it, so it's hooked up to a DVD player, but it's not worth the hassle of setting up and using when I cook. So it just sat there, collecting dust. The Roku 1 fixed that. And I'm expecting a lot of company this summer. I have a half-finished guest room in the basement with a 27-inch box TV. With the Roku 1, this sounds like the perfect retreat.
