This is the second Roku 1 I bought. Can't beat the price. Set up and searching are cumbersome and changing channels is slow, but once a show starts it is great.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I've been using my Roku 1 for about a month now, and love it. Although I've been streaming movies & TV on my iPad, with my eyesight and hearing losses this wasn't always the best option. I wanted to be able to sit comfortably in front of my TV.
I read online reviews, and based on those, first purchased a Roku 2. For a number of reasons, including the type of connections available on my 2009 hd-tv, I ended up switching the Roku 2 for a Roku 1. My suggestion is, if you're unsure about which model to buy, take a photo of the back of your TV, showing all the cables and connectors, and take it with you when you buy the Roku. A competent salesperson should point you to the right model.
Connecting the device was easy, with help from my tech-savvy nephews. We had it up and running in five minutes.
The biggest surprise, and, by far, the most helpful feature for me, is being able to adjust the color, size and font of the built-in closed captions. I've been struggling to read the tiny closed captions on my TV. With the Roku, for the first time in many years, I have captions that I can see. For me, this alone is worth the price of the device.
Since it's difficult for me to see and hear movies in theaters, having the Roku and all the streaming channels I access allows me to keep up with more entertainment than I can handle.
My only complaint is that the remote needs to be pointed right at the device to work. (Maybe I just need to change the batteries).
This is one of the best things I've done for myself this year.

I read about the Roku months in advance before purchasing. Overall, i use it everyday and i am extremely excited about the channels. The only problem i have is the same commercials being played, but that's expected.
