bought the roku1 about two weeks ago because the earlier model I had couldn't play some channels or update.This model seems to work much better although I can't get the surround to work on it.I've gone into settings and selected all the functions that should enable surround sound,but it still won't work and I am using HDMI
I would recommend this to a friend!

A little disappointing

The system works, but I am finding the system a bit disappointing. (1) You have to register the ROKU for operation by providing a valid credit card, even if you have no wish to purchase pay-for-view services. This should be optional at time of pay-for-view. (2) The system NEVER powers down, you have to unplug it. (3) I got it primarily for netflix viewing (rather than using a Wii), but the Roku I does not support multi-users Netflix interface ( introduced 18 months ago?). Sound is very strong, which is a good thing.

No More Cable!

I cancelled my cable TV about 3 weeks ago now and have been using a Roku player. I was nervous about cancelling my cable, not knowing how I would do with the Roku, but it has been great! It's very easy to use and hook-up and the best part is, no more crazy cable bill! I would definitely recommend a Roku to anyone thinking about cancelling their cable.

I have roku 1 for older tv. Download apps quickly, so you can watch chosen program. I like it. It's easy to use.

I purchased is about a month ago and plan to keep up my account. The fact that there are no commercials is a very BIG selling point. Just recently my wife and I went out of town and watched standard TV with all the commercials and I told her that I really missed my ROKU and could not wait to return home.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Easy to install-good basic features!

I bought the Roku 1 for my mom's tv as we were staying with her for a month and wanted access to various channels. The instructions were easy to read and I had the roku installed very quickly. Having a roku in our own home (we have the roku 3), I didn't expect only 2-3 channels but installing the free channels we wanted was simple and quick. For someone older who doesn't want/need alot of channels the roku 1 is perfect.
