I can't remember exactly when i bought this, it was either in July or August, but i am glad i did. I have been using it ever since. It is so much cheaper than cable, and you can subscribe to a lot of channels like Hulu Plus; M-GO, etc..., and watch all of your present and past shows for way way cheaper than you would, if you had cable or dish. I really love this invention.

I gave up my Direct TV because of being on a limited budget. Direct TV is running reruns and reruns and I felt I was paying for something I wasn't getting. So I bought two Roku 3's for my extra TV's. Because my bedroom TV did not have a HDMI cord access I had to take it back and purchase a Roku 1. I now have a Roku 1 in my bedroom, Roku 2 in the living room which I have had for several years and a Roku 3 in the basement where I do sewing. I especially like the choices and the added channels Roku has access to. On my Roku 1 I watch You Tube quilting in the bedroom and love it so much.

Intend to buy another one soon. Have cut four tv sets down to two. Bought Roku 1 for the small one to try out. So happy I did. Returned cable box. One more to go!

Compatible with an older television

I bought a Roku 1 for an older television that I had in my guest room. The old tv does not have an HDMI outlet. It works perfect!

if you are someone that doesn't watch much tv then this is probably going to work for you but the amount of networks and shows that you can actually watch with no additional fees is pretty limited.
