I purchased the Roku special edition player over a month ago for an older tubed TV. Coupled with my Mohu Antenna/digital converter box, I have finally cut the cable cord which was my ultimate goal... In addition, I own a Roku Stick that is connected to my main plasma TV. Both easy to install and easy to use. I never thought streaming
would be this great! Highly recommend a Roku streaming player no matter what style you're interested in..

This is the most marvelous invention since sliced bread! I listen to gospel music and prayers over my household from the time I wake up until going to bed at night. Why in the world pay for Dish or Direct TV when this is available at NO COST TO ME WHATSOEVER!! Wow! What a blessing it is.

I scored a 55" TV from my daughter because the HDMI ports didn't work. I bought the Roku 1 because you can connect with RCA cables. It works just fine for my needs although it doesn't have as many features as the Roku 3 or Stick that I have on other TV'S.

No streaming of local channels!

I have maxed out the set-top boxes allowed by my cable provider, so I put a Roku unit on a little-used guest bedroom tv. I was disappointed to find out that local channels cannot be streamed through the Roku, so it has seriously limited value for me.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

While Roku works pretty much as advertised there are a couple of things you should know before you buy.
First, Roku does NOT come with cables. While they are relatively cheap, you will have to order them separately from an outside source. Roku does not sell cables.
Second, Unless you are willing to pay extra for such services as Netflix, HBO, Showtime and HULU. Roku is almost useless. The "Free" stations are so loaded with commercials that watching them becomes tedious.
With all that said, however, Roku is a good alternative to cable.
