I bought a new TV that had Roku on it and after seeing what it could do I went back and bought 2 more units for my older TVs. My wife has one to use to watch YouTube videos of sewing and I have one to watch woodworking videos. We love them.

I bought the Roku 1 for Christmas, and the apps are old and clunky, not much like the Roku 3 at all. Some of the apps do not run on the Roku 1. Some of the apps do not have the features I enjoy on the Roku 3. It is well worth the extra money for the upgraded Roku. I wish the Roku 3 work on older TVs.

I had to get the Roku 1 because I still have an old-style CRT TV. It works great and it's a joy to watch my Netflix shows on TV instead of the computer screen, which I don't like to do. The shows are easy to find and include in my play list. I also got Amazon, and am thinking about getting Hulu. I wish I had it when I was watching "Derek" and "Dexter". I've 'binge watched' "Orange Is The New Black", and "Jessica Jones", and "Longmire", and "Trailer Park Boys", and some other shows, and there are several others I'm still watching. Can't say enough good things about it.
I got my brother a Roku 3 and he really likes it, too.
The ONLY thing it doesn't do that I wished it would do is stream DVDs being played on my computer. It would be nice if Roku or someone else offered that ability. You CAN stream some videos off of your hard drive, if they are in the correct format, using Windows Media Player, but it won't read off of a DVD real-time and do it. If you can save your DVD video file to disk, you can usually stream it that way, but it's a pain to do that. I was surprised that they didn't support that feature and functionality.

Easy to install - even with a cable box and integrated amplifier we were able to figure it out! My husband was not sure this would be worth it, but he LOVES it! Cable is expensive and there is hardly anything worthwhile to watch so this gives way more choices!

I bought less than a month ago but it's malfunctioning. It may be the system or the remote that won't allow me to change stations. It's frozen and switches when it wants to when the remote is sitting right next to it ob the tv stand
