So far not so good
on March 18, 2022

We had the microwave installed at our vacation home. The technician said he tested the oven and it worked as it should. We did not used the oven for 3 weeks but then we tried to heat up a cup of water. The oven sounded like a jet was taking off. Now we are waiting for a warranty call. We are not happy to have an oven less than 1 month old needing service or replaced.

A new microwave sounding like a jet taking off is not what we would expect to happen. We're glad, though, that you were able to get a service appointment scheduled. If there is anything we can answer for you in the meantime, please let us know because we are here to help. -Chris@GEA

Very nice microwave with average features. Came with our new home so probably builder quality. We have been here 18 months and now has a hot spot in the middle. Time to purchase something else.

Hello there, thank you for taking the time to reach out with this review. We are very let down to hear about your experience with your microwave having a warmer spot in the middle , and we are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused for you.

The floor of the oven being warm even when the oven is not being used is considered normal operation. The cooktop light may produce some excess heat. If this does not describe the issue you are having, we would recommend reaching out to our factory service and repair team by calling 1-800-GECares (1-800-432-2737) Monday – Friday: 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. ET and Saturday – Sunday: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. ET, or by visiting https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm

We hope this helps, and please feel free to reach out if there are any ways we can assist you in the future. -Elliot@GEA

Good Replacement
on July 8, 2022

I have Model JVM1631BB007 and while it runs it no longer heats. Is Model JVM3160RFSS a good replacement? Can I use the same rear wall mounting plate that is already in place with this new unit? It vents to the interior.

Sorry, cosmetic issue not covered
on August 1, 2022

July 7th purchase. Today is August 1st and the #4 on the keypad is bubbled and about to peel off with a few more presses. Looks terrible. GE says sorry, that's a cosmetic defect that we only cover for 7 days. So if you only care that your microwave popcorn pops and not how the microwave looks after 3 weeks, this product is for you.

Hi. We're glad this appliance has performed well, and its great to have you in the GEA family. Having the keypad on your microwave bubble less than a month after its purchase can be frustrating, and we're so sorry this happened. Thank you for making us aware of the issue and have a great day. -Sylvia@GEA

Installation template does not match wall bracket
on August 5, 2022
Posted by: Jimav
from California
If you drill mounting holes where the template says to, the bolts will not fit through the plate because the holes are about 1/4 inch off from the marks on the template. That's a problem for the toggle bolts, because the large hole they require will compromise drywall integrity after you have to redrill in the correct position.

Response from geappliances.comBy Joyce@GEAGE_Appliances August 16, 2022
Hello- We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and can understand your concern. The correct length of the self-aligning machine screw is 3-1/4”, not 2-1/4”. The 9-27/32" listed on the top template is the distance to the back of the unit and the extra ¼” is accounting for the mounting bracket. The line that the arrow that says "Wall" touches is what should be put against the back wall to help with installation. The screws for the top mount on the JVM3160DFBB are not 8 1/2" from the back. The screws for the top mount on the JVM3160DFBB are approximately 9 1/2" from the back.

Note: The new microwaves have the screws for the top mount at approximately 9 1/2" from the back. When the new microwave is installed, new screw holes will need to be added.

Also, the blower fan should face forward when converting it to Recirculating. Some installation instructions incorrectly state to rotate it up, not forward during the installation. If you have any questions in the future, please let us know. We are here to help! Joyce@GEA

Installation nightmare
on August 23, 2022
Posted by: Curtis from MI
Replaced a four year old unit with the exact same model so we would be sure that it would fit. Nope. Different mounting bracket and top hole placement turned what should have been a 15 minute job into a 5 hour nearly marriage ending ordeal. Once installed the unit appears to be much cheaper than the same model from four years ago. I won't be buying this again when it breaks in 4-5 years. What a joke.

Response from geappliances.comBy Sarah@GEAGE_AppliancesAugust 31, 2022
Hi there, and thanks for letting us know about your experience. We truly hate to hear you had trouble installing your new microwave, and are also unhappy with its appearance and quality. We always want to provide a high-quality, durable appliance that is simple to install and use, and we regret the inconvenience you’ve had. Your concerns will be sent to our team for future review and development; your insights are appreciated, as we always want to know what our consumers think of our products.

Mounting brackets are model specific, and our installation hardware can change over time. If you purchase a new unit as a replacement the old bracket may work if it’s the same model, but we would recommend using the hardware that comes with the new model in case there have been any design or part changes.

We are confident this new microwave will serve your needs well for a long time to come. If you do have any other concerns or questions we’re always happy to help, here or over social media. We appreciate you as a loyal GE Appliances consumer, and will do all we can to earn back your trust in our brand going forward. -Sarah@GEA

Hi there, and thanks for reaching out about this. While we’re glad you rated the appearance and features of this unit well, we truly hate to hear the Power Level button isn’t working on your microwave – that certainly isn’t the performance we would expect from this model, and we regret any inconvenience caused. We value you as a loyal GE Appliances consumer, and notice of your situation will be sent to our team for review.

You may want to try disconnecting the microwave from power for a couple minutes before reconnecting; this resets the electrical components and can often resolve an issue. If the issue with the Power Level button continues, our service department is available at 1-800-432-2737 and online at https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm ; a technician would be glad to examine the unit.

We hope this matter is solved for you soon, so you can fully enjoy your new microwave. If you have any other concerns or questions, we’re glad to offer assistance any time. -Sarah@GEA
