This is my second purchase of the same model. My last microwave lasted only 2 years which was disappointing. I only bought the same one because it is beige and matches the other appliances in my home. Dont buy without additional warranty protection.

Only Lasted a Little Over a Year

We replaced our LG that lasted 9.5 years with this GE microwave that only lasted a little over a year. The microwave had its first issued about 9 months after we bought it when the door handle mounts cracked. Then we started to have issues with the microwave tripping the breaker. I am a little hesitant to buy another GE.

Don't buy

This microwave is built with a mechanism in which if you open the unit while it is running it wears out contact points where the door latches. This begins to then tripping the breaker. Over time you can't even start the unit without tripping the breaker. This happened to us within the first year. We had it fixed under warranty only to have it all happen again within another year. We did our best to retrain ourselves to hit the pause button before opening it but guests opened while it was running leading to the same issue.

We had this model for just over 3 years, and the light stopped working several times. This week, it just died. The outlet is fine. It just died.

Worked great until it didn't - mounting nightmare

Please put the ACTUAL model number in listing. We had a JVM3160RF6SS that died after 3 years. Horrible life for a microwave seeing how our old one was going on at least a decade and still running, but that's another story. Given that it died the week before hosting Christmas, we needed a replacement ASAP. We gave GE the benefit of the doubt and ordered another, what we thought was the same model so we could just swap it out quickly. JVM3160RFSS is the ONLY model info that is given when purchasing. What they don't tell you is there's a JVM3160RF3SS, JVM3160RF6SS (which is the unit that died on us), and now a JVM3160RF9SS (the replacement model we received). It wouldn't be so bad if these different submodels had the same mounting and bolt patterns, but they don't, not even remotely. This puts you in a position of potentially undermining the wall because you can't use the existing holes and need to make new ones extremely close to the old ones. So if the reason you stay with GE is you think you're replacing your microwave with something you can slide into the existing brackets because the model is the same, think again. Horrible planning on GE's part.

Quiet and Easy to install

Bought this last month to replace one similar that was 9 yrs old. Installation easy BUT the directions state the vent fan is 'shipped and assembled for recirculating'..which is the non-vented ductless setup that comes out the top vent and into the kitchen. It was NOT set up that way and we needed to adjust the blower motor 90 degrees as explained on pg EN-17. This must be done before it is installed. It was not hard, but if you don't do it, ours would have vented no where-just onto the wood cabinet base above it. We did not add the optional charcoal filter. I like the bright surface light.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Just replaced my old GE with this microwave / range. It was inexpensive, relatively easy to install, and it has all the key features and more. The style simple and understated. If you're replacing an old range with this one, be prepared to drill some holes. Not at all difficult.
