Just what we needed to replace an old GE microwave

I studied via Consumer Reports and this was what we needed as we didn't use all the features on the oven we were replacing. The average life of a microwave is 8 years but the old GE was installed in 2003. This confirmed the durability and report that CR had reported. I installed it myself and I am not a handyman genius. However, I was patient in making my measurements which turned out to be just right. The old bracket had to be replaced with the new one and it wasn't difficult; although the previous installer did me no favors so I did have to do some workaround. I used the bottom bracket's center V notch as the reference point to make pencil lines on the wall and underneath the overhead cabinet shelf so I could take the template measurements and measure from the center overhead. I also double checked by measuring the new microwave points of contact etc. I added 3/8 inches to the measurement from the back wall to the front where the holes were for the overhead bolts. Perfect! It was easy to rotate the fan so that the vent was into the room. I drilled a 1 1/2 inch hole for the power cord instead of the 2 inch and it was fine. I won't go into how the previous installer made it more of a challenge but I didn't have to call GE for help. It just took some common sense and patience. I also installed the charcoal filter before hanging the microwave. Hope this helps someone. You can do it even if the cabinet isn't like one of the options in the directions.

Easy Installation

We have only had it one week and so far have been extremely satisfied with its performance. It has a powerful fan, nice light and was easy to install. The only complaint we have (and it could be our cabinet install) is it doesn't want to sit completely level.

Product Good, Installation a Pain

Once we got it installed, it worked perfectly and has all the features I want. Installation was difficult, because as we were trying to screw one of the screws into the threaded clip, the clip slipped out and fell into the bottom of the microwave. It was impossible to retrieve the clip and now our microwave is being held up by two, instead of three, screws. Not ideal, but it seems to be working so far.

Did not work

I had my contractor install this unit at my residence today. I was excited to finally have all my appliances in and was glad the stress was over. Unfortunately I found that the start button was not working on the unit. The fan and other buttons were working fine but the start button would not respond at all. I further discovered that the interior light would not turn off when I closed the microwave door. This microwave feels cheaply made and I wish I had spent a little more on a nicer unit. This is frustrating because now I am having to schedule a service appointment for what is supposed to be a brand new appliance. I would just take it back then I would have to uninstall everything which is also a pain. This was a added stress that I did not want or need and would have preferred to avoid.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Bought to match stove. Great price and works well. The lights underneath are very bright but will get hot. The fan is nice and quiet.
