Good looking

I've only had this appliance a short time; purchased range, dishwasher and microwave. The problem I see is that the control panel is dark, and hard to read; especially at night. If you need the surface light, it's next to impossible to see it. The only illumination is the clock. That's a downfall and the reason I didn't give it a 5-star rating.
I would recommend this to a friend!

It is a basic microwave nothing fancy very easy to use. Just replaced my old GE microwave after 12 years of use.

Very happy with this GE microwave, reasonable price and simple to use. Had a more expensive GE one that died after 2 years so almost didn't go back to another GE but happy I did with this one. Very quiet and cooks food faster and hotter then the more costly one did!! Just hope it will last longer then 2 years

horrible installation

Just bought this 2 days ago - as far a performance - so far so good. My complaint is with the install. It took nearly 5 hours. Directions and pictures did not always match up - directions would say one thing - pictures would indicate another. I've installed 3 other microwaves and have never had this much difficulty. It says to replace charcoal filter every 6-12 months - however replacing the plastic cover is easier said than done - was sure it would break the very first time I tried to replace it per directions. I purchased this because of Consumer Reports on performance and safety - do not believe I would purchase again because of how un- user friendly basic maintenance seems to be.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Quite and nicely priced

This GE microwave is noticeably quieter that the Maytag microwave it is replacing. Features are on par with other microwaves and the price I paid at a big-box store was very reasonable.
My only complaint that kept me from giving 5-stars is that this microwave CANNOT be installed under a 15" depth cabinet unless you buy the 'bump-out' kit - which is priced nearly as much as I paid for the microwave itself. Of course I did not know this was needed until I unboxxed the microwave and started the installation. Apparently, nearly all new microwave ovens vent the inside of the oven out through the top, just above the door.
In addition, the light inside the oven is positioned on one side, so it is difficult to monitor food in the oven as it cooks - e.g. determine when a cup of water begins to boil.
I would recommend this to a friend!
