I purchased this model because the one I purchased 23 months ago failed and it was cheaper to buy another microwave (same model)that would fit without additional installation. I hope this one last longer....

Easy to use, neat design, does a great job with a variety of products. Reheating is great for many leftovers

In 2.5 years this is the fifth one of the same model that I have installed in the same kitchen.
1. Broken door glass right out of the box.
2. Missing mounting nut in top of the microwave.
3. Ran good for about 2.5 years, then quit working.
4. Bought same model again so installation would be easy. Installed it and when I plugged it in it started running, and the only way I could shut it off was to unplug it.........brought it back for a different one.
5. Got new one out of the box and found it was dented. I thought the dent would be hidden after installation but it does show.....but not too bad.

I purchased this Microwave less than 2 years ago. We use only a couple of times a day. Lasted less than 2 years. Not very happy with GE Products. Had even worse time with the GE Dishwasher. Which flooded out my kitchen. If you purchase a GE Product at least know your not getting a very good product.

good reliability ratings but shoddy mechanical

I bought this to replace an older GE JVM1850 that lasted 11 years. The main reason for choosing GE again was the high reliability rating this model got from Consumer Reports; time will tell if this new 3160 model is as good or better than our old 1850.
But I would say the vent on the microwave that connects to the existing ductwork is quite shoddy and gets bent easily during installation. Also installing the charcoal filter took a long time because it goes behind a grill that touches the microwave door. It only took an hour and a dozen attempts until the grill could be put back without interfering with the door opening and closing freely. Not a great design.
I can only hope that the electronics in the microwave are much higher quality and engineering than the mechanical design.
