The Bad: Included data migration cd failed when moving data from existing Win 7 OS disk to new ssd via sata cables. Tried all options several BSOD but end result: FAIL. Was able to finally install a drive image via ACRONIS with errors. Running CHKDSK corrected FAT errors and finally was up to speed. After thoughts: Buy the SATA --> USB cable that should be included with every drive and use the included software. I didn't have the cable nor quick access to one. I had no warning that a proprietary adapter would be required to migrate OS to the new disk. My other option would have been to do a fresh install of the OS rather than to clone my old drive. I expected the new SSD to conform to industry standards for data migration.
The Good: My new drive rocks and will be worth the aggravation suffered in the long run. I love the speed as is over 10x faster than my SATA2 SSD was! I think the real gem here is the 5 year warranty. I think this drive is the way to go!....just use the usb--->sata method to clone your drive! Thanks Samsung for a great product! I love all aspects of the Drive Magician software.
Pros: speed, 5 year warranty, high quality constuction
Cons: included drive migration software, requires a sata-->usb cable to migrate software, 20% higher cost
with 16GB ram 1800mhz and an amd a8-7600 , this beauty of a 850 evo, although is setup to run for maximum reliability , not performance, thanks to rapid mode being enabled, is hitting seq.read:4300 and seq.write"2700 all the time; i have reserved a more than generous provisioning , double ammount of the standard one !, and i am under a magic spell every time i'm working on my computer ...
there's just one thing i thought it would be different: the cache is always 1 GB of ram , never more than that ... ( i was hoping to touch on 4gb cache , having 16gb of ram)
Added this to a system with a AMD FX8350,8 Gigs Ram and a MSI R290 as well as a WD1 TB Black HDD and it added life to an already pretty nice setup. Windows loads in approx. 5-6 Everything is very fast and responsive. 10/10

I installed application like. wmvware workstation and gns3 in my SSD 850 EVO 2.5" SATA III 500GB. Also I stored my VMs templates inside this ssd. VMware workstaions and GNS3 installed super fast comparing with my previous hdd seagate barracuda 1tb.!!!!.During the cloned process the disk utilization percentage avg was no more than 10%. During the Guest's OS installation, the utilization disk percentage was between 5%-6%. While Im working with 2 VMs simultaneously it keeps between 5%-10% utilization.
Right now i have this samsung ssd hosting the os, application and my VMs. My previous seagate barracuda 1tb is storing my program installation files.
I'm willing to buy the 1TB version of this SSD later this year (waiting for a lower price).
Pros: Lightweight, all the benefits of having a ssd.
The solid-state hard drive was not hard to hook up although my backup for the other hard drive did not work as planned the other hard drive was 100 gigs bigger in desk size and I tried to migrate it over with the software that came with it but after doing it twice it failed. So what I did was install the operating system Windows 8.1 then I installed my files off of another backup. It all worked good and I am pleased with the performance and the speed of this hard drive. I am very pleased with the hard drive and would recommend it to anyone.
Bought this drive to replace 840 evo 250gb .The new 850 evo 500gb is a little faster and Windows 8.1 boots in about 13 seconds. I made the 840 my game drive and it still works like the day I bought it over a year ago. I'll always go with a good company and Samsung never has let me down yet.
