poorly constructed instruction manual means I have had to use trial nd error to determine features. Not sure I have them all down yet!

I really loved the old one and wanted a new one just like it. But this one has a completely dark exterior panel except for the clock so it is big time difficult to enter data! What were the engineers thinking??

Clicking noise right out of the box

This microwave oven has an annoying clicking noise, kind of like popcorn popping. That is to say it's not every 1 second or every 5 seconds, but erratic, like "click click.............click.....click click click." The noise continues for another few seconds after the door is opened, and I can feel that it's coming from the oven ceiling behind a round panel. I just now scheduled a service appointment, but the lady I spoke with told me the service tech may charge me for "customer education" since the noise might be normal. All I can say is this is probably my 4th or 5th GE microwave and NONE of them made any noises like this, only fan noise. So, I hope this is not the “new normal” for GE. I'm withholding Performance, Value, and Quality ratings pending the outcome of the service call. However, this feedback from requires a star selection for "Overall". Regarding the other new GE appliances I bought along with this one, I'd give them all 4-5 stars, which has been typical for GE up to this point.

I purchased this microwave a few months ago it works as specified. The display is NOT ILLUMINATED! This makes it very difficult to operate.

Expected better quality

Cooking times are longer than the Kitchenaid model it replaced even though the watt / power rating are the same. The finish on the door handle is failing -- my unit is 1 1/2 years old. The magnetron makes weird noises compared to any other microwave (including a previous GE model) that I've owned. The exhaust fan is super noisy and not as potent as I was expecting given it's stated CFM. The warranty doesn't provide for in home service and with a microhood, that is very challenging for the consumer. Other then that, I like the look of this model.
