DS-510 Scanner OK

I've been using the DS-510 Epson scanner for over a year and find it to be a workhorse of a tool. I hate paper. So when I had a family emergency that produced piles of paper my solution was to scan/pdf and organize it all on disc. Before purchasing I looked at the competition and read the reviews. I settled on Epson due their reputation. I run a lot of 2-sided docs at 600 DPI. It's been reliable. There are 2 down-sides to the product that I've learned to live with. First, scanning anything thicker than a 20-lb paper produces an error. This is frustrating when scanning an envelope or brochure or similar doc that has a two-sheet thickness. And second, the software that comes with the DS-510 is, well, old, bare bones, and can be labor-intensive. Selecting storage folders takes some getting used to due to the small windows provided. Each time you open a folder search you start at the top of the root instead of the previous folder where you last stored a document. This makes for storing multiple-documents in the same folder (or in the same general folder area) most laborious.
Overall, the DS-510's quality for single and double-sided documents has been excellent. I like the variable paper supports for scanning different sized documents into a PDF, as well as it's small footprint in our home office. It's been a good investment for a high-speed scanner. If I were to buy another I'd seriously consider making it wireless to reduce wire clutter.

DS510 will not install on win 7

Multiple attempts to install the software failed.
Download Epson driver off of the website. Failed.
I will try to contact epson tech support for a resolution then I might be able to give this a better review.

Epson DS-510

I just started a telecom consulting business and had a old scanner that only did one sided and operated very slow. I started going to my wifes office that had a big floor model commercial copier, scanner, fax which was great BUT after purchasing the Epson DS-510 I have no need to leave my office to go anywhere to do scanning. The Epson DS-510 has exceeded all of my expectations. The speed, simplicity of use, the size (so compact). the quality, the price, and I could go on. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who has a need for copying small are large quantities of material.

It's good but fragile

Good scanner. Does what it says. NOT durable at all. The rollers are replaceable, which is good, but the tiny little plastic pieces they connect with are very fragile. They break pretty easily. This is not a good scanner for continued use.
Someone I know pulled the paper out of the scanner without unlocking it. I know that's wrong but it easily broke a tiny plastic shaft that is connected with the top roller. There is no way to open this unit without a complete disassemble. The gears and shafts should be a lot more durable.

Nice and Compact

I purchased the DS-510 for one basic task - to scan in home receipts that pile up. It does a super job. Fast and easy to use, it exceeded my expectations. I scanned all day one Saturday and although i had two paper jams (same paper -slight fold in corner) it performed great. I did a lot of comparison before getting this unit and for the features and price, it was the best choice out there. After use it folds up and stores in a corner cubby on my home work station.
A few cons - the lower paper exit tray has to be stowed with two hands as it will rock left or right and bind up. Also the software took a little time figuring out the basics but then it became simple and easy to use.

Great Product!

This scanner was just what I needed for a project involving several thousand documents. Some were single-sided, some duplex and the scanner differentiated them almost perfectly. Easy to configure for a specific task and virtually automatic after setup. Very few paper jams (usually from staples, tape or post-its on documents that I didn't know were there) and the scanner notified me and reset once cleared. Scans were clear and sharp for both text and graphics and output went directly to .pdf in one step. Very impressed with overall performance at a reasonable price.

Great short term swcanner

Great little scanner for about a year. After that they quit pulling multiple pages and make a clicking noise. Still handles one page but for the price should last longer. I have 4 of these and 3 have malfunctioned as mentioned. We scan about 10 to 40 pages per workday so not from overuse. It may have something to do with the warranty lapsing so they can sell you a new one. If you are looking for a long term solution forget this. If you plan on trashing after a year go for it.

DS-510 Scanner

Received the scanner today 12/09/2013. Installation was very easy, had it up and scanning in about 5 minutes. I scanned a photograph and color document, both were scanned fast and turned out very well. Time will tell.
