I have some 220 slides from 1957 -68. I tried taking pictures of the slides, but the pink cast from degradation and different indoor exposures (outdoor were easier) made them very hard to adjust in Lightroom. I bought this scanner, snapped off the hinged holder for the 220 negs (it will snap back on) and put on three slides at a time, the center slide sitting on top of the first and last. I scanned at 48-bit and 3200 dpi. It takes my scanner about 9 min. to scan 3 slides. The color is very good as it comes from the scanner. I'm glad I bought it. I wish it was faster of course, but I'm saving time in the long run because there is much, much less editing in Lightroom and less frustration too.

I am still learning how to use it and all software may not be installed yet, but I am very pleased with it and wish I had purchased a stand alone scanner a long while ago instead of all in ones. I definitely would recommend this to others. So far it has been easy to operate but am still learning.

Solid Photo & Slide Scanner

I purchased the V550 to replace my old v2400 Perfection. I have used the scanner for about 1 month and have the following comments: PRO's - excellent job scanning slides, negatives and photos; faster than my old V2400. CON's - files are very large; Photo Ice only works with negatives or slides; scanning 3x5 photos with 48 bit color, 4800 bpi and color enhancement results in file sizes of ~100 MB or more; scanning slides with 48 bit color, 4800 bpi, digital ice and color enhancement results in file sizes ~150 MB. Scan times can be 10-12 minutes per slide. Would be nice to have quicker scans. Unit is still much better than my V2400 and works for me.

Got it to scan some really old slides on glass. I had problems with some of my other software and had to remove ABBYY finereader software to get things working right, But the scanner works just fine with out it. Good scanner but they need to test there software compatibility better.

I found it to do a very excellent job on 35mm slides and negative film. There is a mask that comes with the unit that looks big enough for 120 size film and I can put 120 size slides in the 35mm holder but have not tried those yet. Excellent item. I already had a flatbed on a Epson all-in-one and the scanning software is similar. Now when I select the scanner, a little window pops down to ask "which one".

This is my first scanner and I bought it to digitalize the many family photos which I have possession of. I want to keep the originals and share the scanned copies with all of my relatives.
I am pretty impressed with the quality of the scans so far - both negatives and photos. It is pretty easy to use once you learn all the ropes.
Definitely recommend this model to anyone.

Like the scanner - very easy to get up and running. But I am totally not impressed with the film holders. I don't think plastic can flow any thinner..! For a repetitive use item "Come On" put some plastic in it... ! The film frame is Very flimsy! I expect it to be broke within a month.

I got this unit to replace my Epson Stylus Photo RX700- which is old and won't scan to the newer GB memory cards... only MB cards, which you can't find any more. I have been scanning old photos with this unit, using different modes- I use professional mode the most so I can crop a pic and change the target size before scanning. Have also scanned slides in different modes- had a bit of trouble with "auto" mode once or twice when scanning slides; scanner failed to identify them as slides and scanned as a photo instead- which resulted in a scan of the slides and brackets they were in. But all in all, the scanner has worked well in scanning slides and photos. Haven't tried negatives yet. I also have not been able to use Digital Ice, yet. It shows up on the screen, but unable to click on it. I tried going to the Epson site to download the most recent driver updates, but it didn't help. I may have to do some other updates. One thing I really had a gripe about was the User Guide. The format is lousy and wastes paper, if you wish to print it out. Some things were also not very well explained.
