Epson Perfection V550 Photo Color Scanner

I purchased the Epson Perfection V550 Photo Color Scanner to scan some very special old photos given to me by my mother. The set up and installation was simple. I quickly scanned the color, black & white, and faded/discolored photos in multiples. The scanned images were fantastic. The old photo correction gave me wonderfully corrected images.
I would recommend this to a friend!

V550 Photo Color Scanner

I purchased this scanned 2 months ago because I received a lot of family slides from the Estate of my Uncle and Aunt.
The scanning process for slides is very easy and produced excellent results as well as scanning pictures. I have not yet tried scanning negatives but I am confident that process will be just as easy as the slides were.
I am very happy that I purchased this scanner.
I scan lots of photo's for genealogy reasons.
I have already recommended this scanner to several friends and family.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Things did not start out very well, the first V550 scanner I received was DOA. The second worked and is still working. I've had it a little over a month and am very pleased. It's fast, it does multiple pictures at a time and turns them into their own files. The only issue I have is, with some pictures, I have to move the first one away from the edge so that it doesn't see the ones beneath it as part of it. That is the only complaint I have. Turns the newspaper articles into a PDF very quickly. I'm still learning how to uses it, I've scanned over 500 images so far and love it. 4 stars only because of the first box arriving DOA.

Great photo scanner!

I have just had this scanner for a short while but I am extremely pleased with it. I am using to scan black and white and color negatives. It works very well, producing extremely high resolution photos. The scans come out as positive images, which I edit with Photoshop. The quality of scanned negatives does exceed that of digital photos, even with a good digitial SLR camera. I am using the scanner in conjunction with the Artesan 1430 printer, and am getting professional quality large format prints. Its a great combo. I am putting my enlarger away again!

not too user friendly

I have an epson all in one printer... It is much more intuitive. I have been unable to find the command (if there is one) to "auto-detect" the size of my scan.
Also, even though trays for film,.. are included, there is no good place to store them. I fear they will break in a short time.
I gave three stars because perhaps someone with more experience would be able to use. Otherwise, if I cannot get this scanner to work as easily as my all in one, I will return the V550 and continue to use the all in one for scanning my pics.

The scanner operated flawlessly out of the box in the automatic mode with color slide and color negative. When I tried black and white negative, the automatic mode misaligned frames and stored the file as a negative. I then tried the professional mode, all issues with black and white negative was resolved. I will be using the professional mode which allows a multitude of scanning control.

I am very happy with the scanner, I bought it to convert slides to JPEG. The quality is fabulous! I wish that it was easier to put the slides in the holder. You have to pick the holder up to remove the slides, they stay on the scanner and have to be picked up separately.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Scanner

I am a jeweler and want to scan my designs for my records and also to upload to my website. I have searched for many years for a scanner that will take a 3D image and make it look really great. Most scanners do a good job on photos and documents, but a lousy job on items such as mine.
After speaking with a support representative, I was directed to look at the V550 Photo Color Scanner and I read some reviews about it. One customer remarked about the great scans of her lace items and that sold me.
I unpacked the scanner and and it was installed and working within 5 minutes. Voila! My jewelry looks great and I am proud to show my work on scans and not have to worry about taking photos and cropping, color balancing, etc.
