Epson Perfection V550 Photo Color Scanner

Overall, I like the scanner very much, it's quick and quiet. The software is a bit cumbersome, and could use a little work. Scanning multiple documents is a pain when you want to name them differently for each document, or deposit them in different folders.
I would recommend this to a friend!

My New Scanner

My new Epson Perfection V550 Photo Color is just what I wanted - easy to use with great resolution. I have old photos that I am sharing with extended family members and it works great for those. I also inherited negatives and slides - both color and black & white. Some of the black & whites were taken during the WWI era. Each one needs a unique brightness adjustment which the V550 allows me to do on my computer screen while the negative is in the scanner. Thank you for making my very large project easier and faster.

I love my Epson Scanner

My mother left me black and white negatives from her childhood during the 1920's and colored negatives from my childhood. Every time I scan, I get a neat surprise! The copies are great; and have come in really handy for completion of my community family history book.

Good scanner when it works, which is not very often!

The previous 440 was a dream machine, this one, the V550 is A DOG. It works when connected but if it loses the connection it takes days - a week even ...to reconnect. For the first install, I called several tech. people from Epson but they could not make it work. I had to pay for a local person to do it.. .
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I'm an artist and I want to see that a scanner can scan what I've put down on it. I'm thrilled to see that this scanner does do that and that it picks up all the colors and represents them more accurately than any scanner I've used yet. I also love that the software gives you professional options with ample file types which include tiff files. High resolution. I am publishing my second book using this scanner.

Easy To Use

I bought this last month. I had over 2,000 old 35mm negatives in a box at the tope of the closet in my home office, along with about 500 slides. Dated from 1962 to about 1975. With my Epson V550 Photo Scanner I was able to convert all but about 1% to a file on my computer for sorting, "touching up" and making ready for printing. I love it! It only took about 10 minutes getting use to the process and then BAM! I was finished within a week. Now I'm going through old photos, which I scan and print for family and friends.

SEEMS TO BE OK

Seemed to have all needed features, so purchased V550 to scan large number of old historic family photos. Seems to be OK; other than had to re-load software 3x, before operations were relativley seamless; tho, still infrequently receive ERROR msg when scanning photos, having to reinitialize the SCAN button.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I had hundreds of slides to scan and so far it has worked just great! Haven't tried scanning negatives yet, but hope that goes just as smoothly as the slides.
