So far I have only done slides with the scanner and so far so good. Quality of scan is excellent. Can only do 4 slides at a time at about 3 minutes per set at 600 dpi. I have 1800 slides to do. about 90 hours. Good thing I am retired and have time.
On the negative side, you can not lift the slides out of the tray without finger nails or sticky tape on the end of a pencil to get them out. Pour design. Using something sharp could scratch the screen. But for the price it does a good job of scanning. It has all kinds of settings, all the way up to 2400 dpi but that takes forever. I don't play well with computers and found it fairly easy to use. Did have some help from a friend.

Fast, easy, accurate

The scanner works as advertised, but most scanners do. Overall, it is fast and the colors are accurate.
What impressed me was the software, which can make or break any product. The software is easy to use and intuitive.
The OCR that is bundled with it is amazing. It can reproduce printed pages, including the embedded images, and place the editable object into Word or a PDF. The conversion is very accurate and will format the final document to look like the scanned document.
Finally, if you have Adobe Photoshop 4.0, this scanner interfaces seamlessly with the Adobe software.
I would recommend this to a friend!

GREAT SO FAR

Since i purchased the V550 Scanner it has worked perfect, no complaints, i am in the process of scanning in many years of photographs, back to 1967, and the scanner responds quickly so i can do about 4 pictures a minute. It was plug and play and install the software that went along with it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

After scanning over 8,000 letters, photos, and other family documents on a V33 - without fail - I decided to get a 550 for negatives from 75 - 100 years ago. So far, the results are fantastic.

This is my second Epson scanner. My first one was an Epson Perfection 1650 which I liked very much. It was still performing flawlessly when I had to retire it. I purchased a new computer that had Windows 10 and there weren't any software upgrades to use the 1650. So I purchased the V550 for a replacement to work with Windows 10.
I have had this scanner for about four months now and it has done everything I have asked it to do. I haven't used all of the available features but what I have used have been really great. The pictures I have scanned came out true to the originals. Text and letter quality are great and as good as the originals. There will be a learning curve for the V550 but that's normal for a new piece of equipment. I really like the V550 and the features it has. Those features is why I purchased it. I look forward to long future with this V550. It's a great scanner for what I need.

Great Scanner - Wow!

I have this scanner for 2 days. Easily installed software - and wow. It is great!. I have not yet used all the functions available, but scanning multiple photos, some very old, is a snap. I have used the edit and photos are immediately improved. The scanned photos are automatically saved in my Pictures folder on my hard drive and I have copied to other appropriate drives. Just wonderful!

My new flatbed scanner

Today I purchased the Epson V550 Photo Color Scanner. Prior to this I was using two different (and older) flatbed scanners from another manufacturer that became obsolete when I purchased a new computer with Windows 8. Even though I tried updating the flatbed scanner software online, it never worked that well, so I decided a new scanner was in order. I've used other Epson products over the years with good results, so I purchased this one. My only complaint is the setup could be a little more detailed. It took me a while to understand what I needed to do to get the transparency adaptor to scan my color slides.
This all said I've spent a hour or so playing with it and it scans quickly, and the quality is good. The editing software is basic and easy to use. I think this scanner is a winner.

Surprising

As a former Navy Photographer and Graphic designer I was keen on finding something that really worked. I bought the V550 for scanning negatives. I found that not only was the scanning quality surprisingly good on the 35mm negatives, the software had enough flexibility to allow me to include the options that I wanted the software to take of and eliminate those I wanted to do myself. Prior to this purchase I used an outside service. My scans are either equal to or exceed those by outside services. It is easy to set up and start. Incredible!
