Best scanner I've ever had!

I've had it a while now and have scanned everything from outsize B/W negatives to 35 mm negs to postcards to ordinary materials including diaries written in pencil. The prints come out beautifully and the operation of the scanner is simple and straightforward in all cases.

Bought this product today to update my older flatbed scanner. Primary use is to digitize my 35mm transparancies. The V550 is fantastice. Very good quality output. Rivals my Digital SLR! Very happy to recommend this unit. Works great on Mojave OS!

Epson Perfection V550 Photo Scanner
on December 15, 2013

I purchased the Epson V550 because I had used another Epson scanner in the past that worked great. I wanted this one for it's portability. I have scanned over a thousand photos, about 300 slides and a few negatives. It's versatility is another reason I purchased the Epson V550. The quality of the scans is excellent. For photos, you can scan multiple photos at once and the V550 will scan them as individual photos which makes scanning quicker. I found the initial set up and the overall use to be easy. I took the V550 on a recent trip and scanned some family photos with no problems.

Scanners

I bought the Epson Perfection V550 Photo Color Scanner because it scans slides and film in addition to photos and line art. I didn't really like the look of the thing, it was ugly in comparison to the sleek silver canonLD80 which it replaced but it works well enough and scans at a very high resolution. Speed is okay but the instructions about how to use the various plastic inserts that hold the film were not very well done in my opinion, although I was able to figure it out. Once you get used to the machine, it's fine.

Nice scanner

Easy to setup and use. Good scanning software. Connected through my KVM switch, even though Epson doesn't recommend it. Works without issues and it sure beats having to switch connections on the back of the PC to use it with different computers.

So far, so good

My Epson Photo 4490 finally gave out after 7 years and it got pretty heavy usage on the film scanning side. The V550 requires little warm up time. It seems to be doing a great job.

I use this for scanning prints, 35mm, and for 35mm negatives. I think it does a remarkable job with prints. Slides are quite good using the Full Auto settings. Overall, I am quite pleased with the outcome of the scans. I have used custom settings and they do allow for nice tweaking. In addition, I bring the digitized filed into Picasa and find that I can color correct for old slides using "Feeling Lucky". While I am still learning, I have thousands of slides to go. I am pleased with the software and the hardware. Four slides at a time and fill the scan window with as many pictures as you can fit with a .8" gap to indicate a separate picture. A good system.
