Scans slides well

I was able to use the scanner to convert the family slides to digital. The scanner is easy to use and the pictures turn out great! The scanner has now become my filing system. It's wonderful to convert paper to digital! For the two professional credentialing organizations I belong to, continuing education credits need to be submitted every couple years. Scanning these documents and saving them on a flash drive makes this process so much easier!

Good scans but needs better software

My biggest issue is you can't lock in 24x36 mm format for slide and negatives. Scans of low-lighting slides and negatives (such as concert pics) are often cropped for lighting and don't maintain 24x36 formatting. Also a number of instances where Preview picks up scans across two frames. Otherwise excellent sharpness and precise edge-to-edge luminosity (tough challenge for cheaper scanners).

I bought this few months back and hooked up on Nov 7 to my iMac running ElCapitan. It automatically connected and updated. I tried to scan photos and negatives several times and kept getting scanner error . I went to Epson site and down loaded all the drivers and updates only to get same code but then scanner kept turning off. Felt bad and almost wAlked this to trash can. I gave one last effort and restarted computer and scanner, opened scanner in system preferences and amazing everything worked. Once it connected was very easy to use and scans very well. The manual settings allow to adjust picture but what you see on screen and end result differ, so I left on automatic. Sczns are fairly slow but worth quality image at end. I set mine at 2400dpi after playing with different levels. Overall I would recommend

Excellent Scanner

I bought this scanner because my old one wouldn't work with Windows 10. When I began scanning, the software was on automatic. I had a few problems with that, but then I found the setting for manual. I have been having fun with the scanner ever since. I love the extra wide strip for scanning slides and negatives. I have scanned some older negatives that are large and I have scanned some very small negatives. I can outline the negative so I get the area I want. The software includes an enhancement feature that improves dark negatives and light negatives. I LOVE the scanner. The only change I would make is I would add a strip across the dividers for the slide holder. That way, the slides could be put into the spots and removed while holding the slide holder instead of having to remove them from the scanner glass. I put some strips of removable tape across my slide holder and I am able to put the slides into the slots and remove them while holding the slide holder. That works great. The other features work great, also. I am enjoying experimenting with them. I do wish the power button was closer to the front of the scanner, though.

I have owned an Epson V550 flatbed scanner for a long time. I use it at home to scan LP record covers and other personal art work. when we needed a scanner to back-up images at Mom's house after she died, I was pleased to see that the V550 was still on the market. So now I have another one.

Does the job, Some Issues

I bought this in order to scan many, many slide transparencies we had amassed. I had a lot of trouble with “Scanner Not Found” or “Scanner Not Responding”, etc. Spent a couple hours on the phone with Support and things seem to be working now. Not crazy about the EPSON Scan software, seems to be clunky and very dated. The Scanner does scan.

I was surprised when the package arrived, I didn't know the unit was so big. But once I set it up and began using it I sure liked the images I was getting. The scanner makes excellent reproductions once you get it figured out. I do however think a bus load of blind monkeys with typewriters could have written a better software package.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have used this Epson Photo Scanner for about 2 months. It was very easy to set up and is very easy to use. I have scanned many pictures with no problems. It has worked well both for black and white and color photos.
