I have owned Epson scanner for years love them the problem with this one is lack of clear information with the set up

Stand alones are best

I have a HP all-in-one, but this Epson V550 is a much better scanner and out preforms the HP.
Also seeing that it is a stand alone, I can take it from place to place. I would definitely recommend it.

Looking to replace my Epson All-In-One for scanning and copying purposes, the V550 has exceeded my expectations. It is quiet, efficient, was a breeze to set up. I look forward to many years of service. I plan to provide an update in six months.

setup and initial observation

Setup is easy and straight forward.
I had an earlier make of Epson V500 and the slide frame does not sit securely as the V500 did. It slips around a little. The V500 felt better built.
Otherwise it seems to be about the same.

Perfection V550 Photo Color Scanner

First time Epson user, have scanned over 1,000 old photos from the year 1930's to 2015. Using the features on the scanner they look as if they were taken today. The color correction feature makes a world of difference.
Satisified 110% with this scanner. Will recommend to all my family and friends.

Repairs

My first photo scanner didn't last to long and I can't find anyone to fix it. The product does everything it is advertised to do. Scans slides and they turn out real good. If anyone from Epson could help me , it would be appreciated. The drive belt system failed.

good scanner with clunky software

I am scanning mostly documents. I replaced a V100 with the V550. The 550 seems to use the same clunky software that came with the V100. While the scanner is fast (much faster than the 100), the software does it's best to slow you down. New in the software is a requirement to wait after scanning for a conversion to pdf format. You still need to open a separate window to assign a location to store the created file. The software opens the containing folder after the scan making you search for the file. Why not just open the file?. Worst, it assigns 3 digits to the file name; in my use I need to manualy remove them using the rename function.
Great scanner, unwieldy software = 3 stars.

Great for scanning family photos, can scan multiple photos at the same time which is useful but the auto-orient feature was not always accurate.
