very nice scanner

It was time to scan in a whole lot of slides, and I was not too happy with the results I was getting from a couple of older scanners. This unit got a rave review in a newspaper column, and I found a refurb unit at the Epson store.
It did the job very nicely, and I look forward to trying it out with some B&W negatives.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Finally Satisfied

After going through half a dozen scanners I finally bought this Epson and I am totally satisfied. This is the one I have been looking for all along. This does what all the others say they can but don't. It's user friendly and a joy to use after torturing myself with it's competition.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Inferior OCR software

Pretty good scanner for the price except... The OCR is awkward to use since one must use (included) ABBYY FineReader Sprint 8.0. And 8.0 does not OCR into .docx, so either one must buy an expensive upgrade or use a clumsy work-around.
At the least, Epson should have included the upgraded FineReader.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Ready to scan boxes of slides?

After too many years of procrastination, I finally launched into 45 years of slides. It is taking some time, but I'm finally getting the job done at considerable savings. I won't even mention what I paid someone else to do the job for my parents' slides. That will forever be a secret.

I love this Edson V550 Photo scanner, I have so many old photo's and 35mm Negatives that needs to archive to a external drive.

I LIKE MY NEW EPSON SCANNER, ITS EASY TO USE, AND WHEN SCANNING PICTURES, I DON'T LOOSE ANY QUAILTY OF THE PICTURE THAT I CAN.

I always used an HP scanner ,but I needed a new computer and there was no driver for my perfectly good scanner .HP did not provide a driver ,so I looked for a scanner that would work with my computer . I found an EPSON AND WOW it is great. Easy to use and gives professional results . I love it and I think you will too.

Epson Perfection V550 scanner woes

I have just set up a Epson Perfection V550 scanner following the 4 step instructions provided. Already having issues. The scanner can be driven by the computer but the scanner will not talk to the computer. Its too bad. If a few more instructions could only be provided; it would be great to have the scanner work like it is advertised from the start. I would pay extra money to have clear instructions that do not constantly tell me to uninstall and re-install without correcting the problem. Disappointed.
