I love it so far

I have only had the scanner for a couple of weeks, but I love it so far. The installation was surprisingly easy. I did have to change a couple of settings in Windows 7 after setup, but they were not difficult, even for a non-techie like me. I bought the scanner for home use, and the picture quality is great for my needs. The User's Guide is excellent, very simple to follow.

Neat Machine

The Epson V550 Photo scanner is easy to use. You can put multiple photos on the scanner and it will separate them out to be individual photos. You can also scan strips of negatives and the scanner will produce individual photos.
Neat machine. I have recommended it to my siblings.

Old Family Slides Project
on July 12, 2014

Bought the Epson Perfection V550 to scan very old family slides and photos. The slides were easy to do: The slide holder made it simple. I haven't started scanning the photos yet. The V550 is quite a complicated scanner, with many features I haven't yet figured out. The digital manual is not as helpful (read: basic) as I'd like. Yet, I expect I'll be able to figure the steps out---through trial and error. V550 has lots of scanning options!

Love My Epson Scanner

Just what I needed to scan shoe boxes full of photos. I can scan 3 or 4 photos at a time and it separates them automatically. I save them into my Adobe Photoshop so I can tag, sort and edit. Highly recommended.

scanning slides
on February 26, 2015

The scanner comes with a tray suitable for scanning 4 slides at a time, and with an 'auto' mode that does so without intervention. This capability is not uncommon, but still a real time saver. It would be nice to have a glass lens to hold the slide down if curled, but one can improvise. The driver has a checkbox to automatically orient slides correctly, but this is not reliable (no big deal). The one characteristic I did find disappointing was that each slide holder position has an indent so you can easily remove the slide after scanning, but the indent isn't deep enough to be able to hook the edge of the slide with your fingernail. I had to take a small file and bevel the edges. Unless the slides they used to test this holder had really thick frames, they could not have tested removing slides after scanning.
The scanner is not nearly as solid as my Epson 2450, but seems to work well otherwise.

New scanner

My Epson scanner works fine. The only issue is, I wish that the on-off switch was a toggle switch in stead of an in-out button leaving you wondering if you really turned the thing on or not. Also, it would have been better to have placed it on or near the front instead of the rear near the bottom.

Perfect Scanner for the Perfectionist

Although I've only used the scanner for a short time I've been overjoyed with the results. It's intuitive to operate, n other words, simple! I'm very picky with the images that I want and this scanner does not disappoint! I was especially impressed with the color correction on older photographic prints. Instead of spending many minutes fiddling in Photoshop I just click the box! I bought this scanner for film (negative and positive) scanning and now I can start discovering what is on all those old negatives! Great scanner!

Longtime Epson Fan
on May 29, 2016

Never mind that some Epson products are made in Oregon. I would still be a big fan even if they were not. This scanner replaces an Epson Perfection 2400 that will be used and loved by one of our children. The only "Nit" that I have to pick is that it is not set up to scan 4x5 in. images (as if anyone still has any of those laying around). It would just be nice to have on the off-chance one turns up. As well, there is no provision for some antique 3x5 in. negatives I found in the family archives. It would be nice to have a custom guide for odd-sized film for us that are preserving family history.
