The scanner should come with a printed manual, rather than having to go to the online guide. It's much more simple to pick up the manual rather than print 100 plus pages.

V550 Scanner

I am trying to restore photos, have the v500 and bought the v550. The color from both scanners did not restore the original colors as they were when originally printed years ago.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great all-around scanner

This scanner did an excellent job with everything I could throw at it. I did some of my daughter's artwork, some old photos, then tried some of my most challenging negatives and slides, including underwater scenes. This scanner handled all of them with fantastic quality.
Some of my negatives were significantly underexposed, so I set it for 48-bit color had no problem with them at all.
If you plan to scan negatives, Digital ICE is an absolute requirement . This scanner did an excellent job. Not a single spec of dust or scratch appeared in my scanned image.
My only complaint is that it takes about 8 minutes per frame to scan 35mm negatives at 6400 dpi. But 3200 dpi is perfect for making 8''x10'' prints, so I will primarily use the lower resolutions, which were much faster. On the rare occasion I need to make a huge print, I can afford the time it takes at 6400 dpi since it does such a great job.

Want correct color? Try Epson Perfecton V550.

With our previous scanners, we were looking for clarity, speed, and transparency/slide capability. Our new Epson Perfection V550 reminds us the main quality we need for our use with art projects is correct color rendition. This scanner is remarkable for the correctness of the colors in the scanned image. It's also quick, and the LED light source is a nice improvement.
I would recommend this to a friend!
