I AM SURPRISED AT HOW EASILY IT WAS TO DO PICTURES AND SLIDES. BUT WOULD LIKE A MORE DETAILED PHAMLET ON HOW TO TOUCH UP OLD PICTURES AND SLIDES. WOULD RECONMENED TO ANYONE.

I've been using my new Perfection V550 Photo Scanner for weeks now and I can honestly say that I've been very happy with the results it produces.
Easy to set up and a pleasure to use.

Received Perfection v550 last week and spent a most frustrating weekend trying to install its software. I could never get beyond 10% on the installation proress bar as a "setup Error' notice would pop up. Oddly enough when I clicked to close the notice, installtion would continue. But when I tried to start the machine I was greeted by another message advising that v550 could not communicate with my computer. So I jumped through all of the remedial hoops for 3 days without success and my computer now has the hiccups as a result.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

After going through all the setup and Protocol, it still says cannot communicate with scanner. Thanks, but no thanks!

ICE is a good feature in this scanner, works very effective. My previous scanner was an Epson, still in good conditions. Installation was easy, slides come out clear as well as the negative films. I am highly satisfied

Problems

I may have to pay some one at the computer
store to come to my home and get this scanner installed.
I have installed various things, but NEVER have had such problems. My last scanner, Epson 2400 worked fine. This V550 may be going back. It acts like it is dead.

Disappointed - poor software

I was disappointed with the Perfection V550 Photo scanner. The scanner hardware worked okay, but no better than my old scanner. The software was poor and not helpfull. It didn't even open the image just scanned! I had to go searching through hundred of files in the My Pictures folder. It also offered no touch up tools, which my old scanner does. I returned the new scanner. I'll continue using the old one.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
