I purchase this latest one as a direct replacement. Quality of the scans and ease of operation serves my project. The first scanner lost a scan nib after 1700 35 mm film frames.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I admit I was thinking that this scanner wasn't going to do slides justice. For the price I was amazed how well it does.

Is it the software or the scanner itself that's fantastic?

I purchased this scanner mostly to scan slides and film negatives. I had an Epson scanner for this function and wanted to upgrade. The improved software that came with this V550 locates images in a strip of negatives much better than my old version. Or maybe it's the scanner that does that? Either way, I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Able to scan both film and prints. Good quality on the scans. Software is barely functional, but if you understand Epson is a hardware company, then that's to be expected. Recently developed a bad pixel resulting in a black zipper on film scans. Will need to file a warranty claim

I bought this a while ago to scan my slides and photographs for archiving. Ability to scan 4 slide at a time is very useful, the quality of the scans are good.

2nd Epson Scanner

Started with a V500 Epson scanner now have a V550. Excellent scanner for slides, film or photo’s. Easy to use with good software for levels of control.

I have only used the V550 for a month and a half, but in that short time I find that it does a very good job scanning my 35 mm slides. One area for improvement would be the plastic holder for the slides, as once your done scanning the slides have to be picked up from the glass which risks finger marks on the glass. A small lip on edge of the slide opening to prevent the slide from falling onto the glass might help if it did not interfere with the position of the slide for scanning. Overall I think it is better than my expensive Nikon scanner ( which has quit working) and the V550 is certainly more versatile.

Perfect for my needs!

This scanner has proven to be perfect for my original needs and much more. I have a great many 35mm negatives that were rescued after a storm destroyed my darkroom. I had no way to print them or check them until we discovered this little jewel. It works great and solved my problems. Thanks Epson!
