Very disappointed. I gave 2 stars because the quality of the images is great. But it takes forever. I tried it with 3 different computers, desktops and laptops, Mac and PC thinking the computer was the problem. The negative adapter for the 2 1/4" doesn't work, it scans the holder... Slides and 35 mm negatives work well other than the speed. Also cumbersome having to reopen the scan program every time you reload the slide holder. I thought I could capture my extensive collection of slides and negatives but it seems like it will outlive me and I am not that old...

I love the quality of the scans, especially when scanning 35mm slides! And the Auto Scan function is great, too. So why can't you do color restoration in home mode?

I've had this V550 for about three years now and just moving it to a new laptop. I've been using scanners since the early 90's and needed this model to archive thousand of old family 35mm slides dating back to 1943. The V550 has done an excellent job, capturing thousands of images, correcting color, removing dust and scratches, and steadily advancing me through this massive collection.
It takes about three minutes to scan each slide (done in batches of four), but the results are quite spectacular. I scan to a 4 x 6 format at 300 dpi, resulting in an 1800 x 1200 resolution which is perfect for modern flat screen TV's or for making a first-quality print.
This scanner has been extremely reliable. I'm a retired illustrator, photographer with more than 40 years in the business of graphics. I'm very satisfied. Note that I've scanned at four times the resolution with no better results... 300 dpi at whatever final size you need is perfect!

Slow, slow, slow....

I was really excited to try this scanner with my new iMac. Found it odd that it came with a CD with the driver software as my computer doesn’t have a CD drive. Maybe that was a clue. Anyway, installed everything and tried the first few scans. The software is poorly designed, at least for running on a Mac. And the scanner is slow. I mean really slow. I tried it with dust removal feature on a 3.4 inch black and white picture and literally it took 10 minutes to complete the scan with much of that time seemingly siting idle. However the software doesn’t really give you any clue as to what is happening. Sorry Epson but I can’t recommend this unless you fix the speed issue and update your software.

Hi AndyjwB, thank you for your feedback. Please be advised that some third-party applications are only available on the included CD and the drivers are available to download at our support web site. Scanning speed can be affected by the size of the original, the resolution, and multi-scan features, like Digital ICE. Try adjusting scan settings and consult the online user’s guide, found here: [ https://files.support.epson.com/docid/cpd3/cpd39283.pdf ]. Also please install the Epson Scan Common Updater which corrects possible pauses when scanning multiple items at once from our Support site, under the Utilities tab found here: https://epson.com/Support/Scanners/Perfection-Series/Epson-Perfection-V550-Photo/s/SPT_B11B210201?review-filter=macOS+10.14.x If, after completing these steps, the issue continues, please contact Epson Support at (562) 276-4382; Hours: Monday – Friday, 6am – 8pm PT; Saturday, 7am – 4pm PT. Sincerely, Matt S. – The Epson Team.

Not happy with the scanner software

I have several hundred really old negatives (1930's and up) to scan that were not common sizes in the 1970's to today. When I set the size of the negatives to their actual size the software automatically changes it for the next scan. Makes my job much harder. When I make a change to the settings they should stay that way until I change them or until I close the program. The Hardware does a nice job of copying my pictures once the settings are made.

Confusing Interface / OK scans
on June 12, 2019

I have many negatives, slides and 8mm film to put into a digital format. I was very confused by the interface, which seemed to alter with a second interface. I had so much trouble getting through the process that I called support, but they were no help. The scanned images were very good from colored slides. The B&W negatives were OK. I was disappointed there was no '8mm' as I thought there would be..
