Looking Good so far

I am new to this scanner and it seems to work very well and quickly with negatives; the platen scanning is excellent. The big disappointment is that Epson was not prepared for the new Apple operating system, Catalina. There was plenty of warning from Apple about this but Epson was caught off guard. The techs I've spoken with have been very helpful trying to get this machine to work as it should. The connection between computer and V550 is not as smooth as it should be; too much turning on and off. Eventually, I figure Epson will figure it out.

This does my slides real well , though I had originally hoped the new printer I had would do slides. It works with my Win 10 computer and likely will with the Linux one I have, too.

I purchased this a few weeks ago and wow. I have been scanning photos so fast. About 3 times faster then my other scanner and 100% better quality. I have been posting old pics of family and everyone is loving them. Thank you.

Works Great

Easy to set up, automatic mode is what I use most. Can place three standard photos on the glass at the same time, leave some space between them and it will copy each one individually. You can select the file and the name of the photo with with a few keystrokes. I am very pleased. I have not experimented with the manual settings, or scanned negatives or slides with the included adapters.

Excellent scanner

I have scanned over 2000 35mm slides with excellent results and will soon start on family photos.
I find the supplied software is good for occasional use but cumbersome for large numbers. The scan app does not come close to using the abilities of this scanner. I use a third party program, adding scripting to perform repetitive tasks.

I bought a Refurbished V550 Scanner to store data, pictures, videos and backups for a HP laptop with a small SSD drive using Windows Home 10.

Very Good Scanner

I found that this scanner is very easy to set up and use. The drivers for the scanner are available for download at the Epson web site. I did find that the ABBYY FineReader software included on the CD is not available for downloading from the Epson web site. However, there is a work around, which is free of charge from Google. Upload your scanned image to Google Drive (you need a Google account) then right mouse click on that image. You will see "Open With" and you can select Google Docs. Upon doing that the image will appear in the top of the document and the extracted text will appear below that. The text can then be copied and pasted anywhere as needed. That will work with Microsoft Edge or Chrome. I use Windows Fax and Scan for scanning documents into my computer.
The scanner has a rather large footprint so make sure you take that into account before you purchase it. I will say that it is well made and very happy with it.
