Finally found it!

One of my hobbies is to gather, organize, and digitize family records - documents, photos, etc.
I have long wanted an affordable way to make high resolution copies of photos, and especially to be able to make slides and/or prints from old filmstrips and 35mm transparencies, both positives and negatives. I finally learned about this Epson scanner from my brother who also has one and uses it for the same purposes as I do. Thanks Epson!

Very nice product

After struggling with scanners on a couple of older "All-in-one" printers, I began looking for a stand-alone scanner. I found some inexpensive ones and then expanded the search a little. I have over 2500 35mm slides dating back to 1970 and have been wanting to capture them to digital. I purchased the Epson Perfection V550 scanner and am very pleased. The installation was very easy on my Windows 7 PC. I like the way the software works with the buttons on the scanner. I scanned several older picture and have copied about 100 35mm slides. I am very pleased with the ease of operation and the quality of the scans. I downloaded the pdf manual. It is a little awkward, but the information is there.
I would recommend this to a friend!

V550 scanner

I have been looking all over for a scanner to replace my 5 year old Visioneer that won't upgrade to W7. I needed a scanner that would do old Brownie film as well as 2 1/4 X 2 1/4 120 film. Everyone has 35mm which is no biggie anymore. Everything was as advertised. I originally went for the 600 but the store was out at the time although they had one 550 left marked down on clearance. I was told if I didn't like it they would take it back and order the 600 for me. Once I unloaded it and got everything working I did my usual and started testing it out without reading the directions. After some frustrating time I finally did what I should have and that was to read them. I highly recommend that because they are very precise and, for the most part, very clear on how to work the scanner for each of your needs. So far it does as advertised and I don't think I'll need to go to the 600 model.

Restoring 45 year old slides

I'm using the V550 to scan/digitize my old slides. The V550 captures everything from my 35mm slides. Then I restore those digitized images using CS-5 and Elements 8. The results are great -very satisfying. The V550, at work, is quiet and it's easy to use. (I forgot to replace the top mat (slide scanning) but was reminded. This saved me some possible frustration later.) I rate the V550 at the top.

I like that you can scan multiple pictures at the same time and they come up as separate files. The leds are nice, a fast scanner that does what I want. Good home scanner.

I just bought the scanner. Very easy to set up. Used it right off. Loaded 4 photos on the screen and it scanned them in as four different pictures. With what I've seen so far, this is a very good scanner.

Epson Perfection V550 Scanner

I like this scanner because I can make copies of larger than 8.1/2x11 documents... I use it especially to make copies of watercolours I do. I have et to use this copier to make copies of film negatives & slides, which is something I may want to do in the future.

This is easily the best scanner I've owned, and I've had several over the years, including an H-P six-color job that wasn't much good at all. The Epson is fast, easy to use, and has the best software of any I've had. The lid detents in a partially-opened position, a really convenient feature.
