I just started using this product a few days ago and have scanned in over 50 pictures. The quality of the scans from the pictures taken in the 1930's and 1940's is very impressive! In addition the setup was extremely easy as well.

Easy & fast to scan old photos

I had hundreds of old printed photos I needed to scan to create a "this is your life" slideshow. I had done this before with my printer/scanner and it took weeks of doing this for a few hours every night. I did some research and found this Epson V550 scanner. I'm not a "techie" and struggle with new hardware. But not so with this Epson V550 scanner. I was able to scan multiple photos simultaneously and each was saved with it's own jpg file. It was easy, I was able to easily save faded and damaged photos just by selecting different scanning options. This V550 just scans to a computer but that's all I needed and it made what would have been a long tedious job fast and easy. The resulting quality was very good. I've already lent it to others who have experienced the same good results.

Owned 2 years so far

I have scanned in excess of 3000 slides in the past two years; some of the slides are as old as 60 years. The quality of the slides have ranged from excellent to downright color-shifted. I've been using the manual (professional) mode and adjusting color balance and cleaning up. Overall I am quite pleased with the results. I use ICE when necessary; it isn't totally perfect but it does an overall good job (one of the better cleanups is attached). The manual is not very useful for the amateur; lots of additional research is needed to clarify what the controls do. I blame Windows more than Epson for the fact that the software temporarily 'hangs' on a regular basis. After a few moments the system clears itself and processing continues. This issue is not only restricted to the Epson software - even Microsoft products have this issue. I wish there was a Linux version of the software and drivers (I'm not that good with gimp). I have recommended this device to friends and one did buy it.

The quality of the scans is excellent. However, the scanner will not work with the 64 bit version of Corel Draw Suite. Corel says that the driver is not a true 64 bit driver.

"THIS EPSON SCANNER IS SUPERB"

This is a great stand alone scanner. Beats those all-in-ones, hands down. It will do great Photo Scans with high resolutions.
It is hard to find a scanner that has the hardware to scan 35 m.m. slides, photo negatives etc and make a photo from such.
It has 4 programmable buttons on the front for easy scanning, or if you wish, you may bring up the software suite and do custom scanning from there.
In my opinion, Epson makes the best Scanner available for home use. I have owned 5 different scanners. You cannot go wrong with this scanner. Great Price for the Value.

I have loved photography for over 50 years. Today I shoot digital but for many years I took slides. I have over 9000 slides in storage and I want to convert many of them to digital. I have tried 3 other so called slide scanners and none of them worked well enough. MY NEW EPSON WORKS!
As my wife and I work to produce and edit a family history for our children and grandchildren we finally have the tool that we have needed.
