I'm using the unit primarily for old slides and 35mm negatives.
My unit is taking about 3 minutes, 15 seconds per slide or negative (2,400 dpi). That's painfully slow.
The carrier for negatives is a weak point, unless your negatives are quite flat. Any curl to them and the catches on the carrier have a hard time staying closed. They need to make this from beefier material.
Yesterday when I powered-on the unit, I had the lid open for the first time when the scanning light did a self-test and was disappointed to see dust on the inside of the glass scanning surface. If I had seen this before the 30-day return window, I'd have sent it back pronto. Unfortunately, I'm just a few days past.
I do like the fact that the software automatically isolates each slide or negative image and creates a separate file for it. That's sweet.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The Epson V550 scanner is ideal for scanning old/ more recent b&w film negatives into my computer and printing out as needed. I am pleased to save treasured negatives and reflective prints from my family history. The features of the V550 give good control over the scans. A call to tech support was helpful in determining the point in the final scan where I still have the opportunity to adjust contrast and brightness of the image. I haven't scanned any 35 mm color slides, but I am confident that this machine will do the job well. Highly recommended.

I love this scanner. I had recently had a flood in my house and my pictures got wet. It was devestating. This scanner allows me to scan a few pictures at the same time and they are each saved separately. What a perfect scanner it is! This scanner has saved me a lot of time and most of all, my pictures that are irreplaceable.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The photo scanner is finally working great. It did take a little extra work and a great amount of time and energy to get it up and going. Thank God for the help from Phnix overseas.

I have used Epson scanners for many years and they have all performed great. This V550 is no exception. It was easy to install and set up for use. I have only had it for a week and already I have scanned 300 color photos. It is fast with no warm-up.

This has been a great product producing high quality images as promised. In fact, I recommended this same product to our image specialist at the newspaper where I work and they bought 3 of the V550 models. Newspaper work requires high resolution imaging and they were well satisfies.

I have been amazed at the ease of use of the Epson Perfection V550 Photo Color Scanner. Just lay the picture you wish to scan on the glass, lower the lid, press the button and bingo you have a perfect copy of that treasured photo on your PC or other device that you wish. The scan takes only a few seconds and comes out perfect.
I have even scanned important documents that I wish to have a permanent record of.

Really good scanner

Have hundreds & hundreds of negative's I wanted to put on my computer, went online and read reviews on all the photo scanners out there and chose the Epson V550, Very pleased with scanner and the software setup was a snap. Good value and works great, very happy with this scanner would recommend it to my friends without hesitation.
