This frame shouldn't be considered for an action camera. The threaded mounts clip in to the frame with thin plastic tabs that pop apart by design. A good bump is all it would take to have the cam seperated from whatever mount it was connected to. I would only this for a stationary tripod setup, but seems a little ridiculous since its for an action cam. What Sony should do is take advantage of the "Flip" setting in the action cams. Build a skeleton frame based ont the standard waterproof case and put the latch with threaded mount on top and slot out bottom of the case to have access to external mic, hdmi, etc and the camera would be mostly protected. Just like the skeleton frame for a GOPRO.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Doesn't fit the HDR-AS300!

The AS300 is a great little camera, but if Sony wants to challenge GoPro they should establish an ecosystem of *COMPATIBLE* accessories. At the very least include a list of compatible action cams in the product specs.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The all plastic construction doesn't give you a sense of confidence regarding durability but mine is still working after 2 years of abuse. I use this to house my AS100V, mounted to the side of my paintball mask. I have rubbed up against branches, wooden pallets and concrete walls with no issues at all. Not once has it opened up on it's own when bumped nor are there any cracks.
My only issue is that I can't combine the lens protector accessory with this case.
This case works for older action cam models like mine and of course will not fit my new addition the FDR X3000.
