A serviceable double oven

Pluses: The oven is attractive and the keypad set up is easy to use, the fan is very quiet, the broiler works very well, the convection oven roast browns nicely, and the oven temperature (while running a little hot) remains constant, and the racks can be left in in the oven for cleaning. Negatives: the door misaligns easily when hot so that it hits the rim above, the steam clean option doesn't clean, and the regular cleaning option doesn't work as well as my previous wall oven of another brand.

I have needed a double oven for years and finally purchased the 27inch double wall oven. Over all it works well but wish GE had talked to cooks before designing it. Granted the problems are small but annoying. When turning on the lights, the lights in both ovens come on. This is also how the timer works...can only set the timer for one time even though you are using both ovens. This defeats the purpose of a double oven. Or this is how it appears to me. I have not found a way to use both ovens at the same time but with different cooking times. The manual that comes with it is very sparse on instructions. Also GE should get help writing their manuals.

Love this oven!

This oven was purchased to replace a 25 year old double oven that began to fade right before the holidays. We babied it for two more months before it became apparent that its demise was imminent. Well, I certainly had not realized how inefficient and spotty my previous oven had become until I started baking in this oven. It is a dream for baking yeast breads. I baked multiple loaves and rolls of several different recipes for a fundraiser and the results were fabulous. I am thrilled with the proofing feature in the lower oven. Our house is kept on the chilly side and the proofing feature was a lifesaver for getting these breads risen and baked in a timely fashion. I have baked dog biscuits, muffins, and cookies and roasted several pans of vegetables in the 3 weeks since it was installed - all with excellent, even results. The multiple rack positions allow for a variety of options for fitting multiple pans at the same time - or placing one just where it needs to be. The interior has much more space than my previous 27" wall oven and is very well lit. The windows are quite large and you can actually see what is baking in the oven! The exterior is nicely designed and easy to clean. Wiping up minor drips and crumbs inside is a snap with no exposed elements. I could go on and on about the features and how fantastic this oven is - I highly recommend it.
All that said, let me point out a couple of things I hope the design team will address in the future. Our only real "complaint" is with the timer. It took me a bit to figure out how to set it - and whether it was actually counting down. All of my other timers (and I have used many) begin to count down when started; this one doesn't show seconds until the last minute. I have never set another timer for 45 minutes where it looks like it is set for 45 seconds. Hours are to the left of the colon and minutes are to the right with no seconds showing until the last minute. I have inadvertently started a few things off at hours rather than minutes due to this awkward display.
The other issue is with the GE Brillion app. I appreciate being able to carry the oven timer with me around the house and yard via this app. However, my husband's smartphone is also alerted every time the oven has reached temperature and when timer is finished (along with an admonition that though the timer is finished, the oven is still on - no "grace period" as soon as the timer goes off you're told the oven is still on). I got to experience this one day when I was at work and he at home baking something that required many 15 minute intervals - every time the timer went off, I was alerted. There really needs to be a way to disable this function (from the oven) as it is a distraction to those not using the oven.
All in all, this is a fabulous oven with a couple of annoying aspects, but none that compromise its function. We are thrilled and look forward to many years of baking

Very Nice Oven

I generally like the oven a lot. I would have given 4.5 stars if I could.
I like the design, materials, layout of the buttons and the general operation of the oven. I checked the calibration against a high quality thermometer and it was spot-on. If it had not been, the recalibrate function is pretty straight forward and with small enough increments to be useful. The oven holds it's temperature very well and seems to be very even for top and bottom. The convection (top oven) is very good but you must make sure you know that you need to use a lower temp than the recipe calls for otherwise you will overheat your food because of the added efficiency of convection air movement through the oven.
A few minor disappointments popped up but nothing dramatic or that would have made me choose a different brand. First, there is no Timed Bake feature on the double oven. There is on the single. Why did GE leave that out? I even wrote to the Customer Center and got a prompt response, with Jerry saying that he thought I was mistaken until he double checked himself. He said he'd pass it along to the design team. I work in product design in high-tech, and to add one more button plus the software code to operate the feature would have cost only a few dollars. Seems an oversight or a product team with no one who cooks with Timed Bake! :-)
Second, the Preheat function is more than a bit slow to get to normal temperature such as 350 degrees. It typically takes 15-20 minutes. I wondered if it might be a defect on mine so I wrote Customer Care and asked them what is the specification for Preheat (without telling them how long mine takes) and the prompt response was that it is indeed 15-20 mins. The rep said it was because of the concealed lower element design but that some models have an Express Heat function. Unfortunately the PK7500 is not one of those models. Oh well, so I have to plan a few minutes in advance to preheat.
As I said, these two issues don't detract from an otherwise very nice double oven but for a few extra dollars I would have been willing to pay, it would have been a solid 5 stars if they'd added both of these items.
Like another writer, I too don't like the Timer's lack of countdown until the last one minute interval. GE has been doing that in their oven for years and I guess they've not seen a reason to change to a pure countdown timer like other makers. Again, no biggie, and more of a personal preference.
I'd recommend this oven to any serious cook/baker as it is an attractive design, easy to use and if history is any indicator, probably a reliable unit as well.

Ok but I miss many features of my old GE oven.

Replaced our 20 yrs old GE double oven.
Convection oven interior dimension is a little larger than the old one. Just enough to fit all our pans now. A fan behind the control panel stays on for about 60 min. after turning the oven off. Fan Noise level is about that of a load deskside computer. I suspect it is a UL thing. All the other brands we looked at in the forums complained about the same thing. I can hear it in a quite kitchen from about 20 ft away. With the TV on in the adjoining family room, I do not notice it.
The button interface changed for the worse. Gone is the single up arrow button to add a minute per push to the timer. You now have to stop the timer and reprogram the time and remember to hit the start button. In a nutshell you cannot add time but you can reprogram the time. Difficult when you don't see the seconds until the last minute of count down. Better is that you directly enter the digits for the number of minutes instead of holding down the up or down arrow. If I had a choice of one or the other I much prefer the add/remove 1 minute button. This is useful when you need just a litttle more browning.
You have to select start after every change of oven temperature or timer. If you forget, you come back later and nothing has happened. We have missed pre-heating and time settings numerous times. The old one use to start by itself after about 15 seconds of inactivity. Button pushing is much nicer since they are capacitive sense on glass. The old one had bubble contact buttons which is what actually broke in the old one. We could not find a replacement panel. This is after 20 yrs of not one single issue.
Brillion in Android/ipad could use allowing one to choose a unique alert. You are stuck with whatever your phone default is so I don't know if the oven alerted or I got email. It would be nice to program an alert that would say "Oven" instead of "Droid". You have to register and create an account to use Brillion.
Both good and bad is the remote phone setting. You have to press the remote key on the oven if you want to pre-heat the oven from outside your home. So no pre-heating if you did not plan on it on the way home from work. This is good because it prevents hackers from turning on your oven but prevents you from getting a head start on last minute meals.
I missed this one during my research. The 30 inch model has a meat probe but the 27 in. does not.
The door window is large and offers a great view of what is inside. Lighting is also much brighter than before. Looking at things cooking actual works. We rarely open the door now.
Pre-heating takes longer than the old one. I have not timed it but feels like twice as long in the convection oven.
It is nice to have the lower heating coil gone but I would much rather have the coil and faster pre-heat like before.

1) First of all, let me state that I hate wall ovens compared to free-standing ranges because of the width of the internal space. Unfortunately, a wall oven came with the house and it would have been too expensive and labor intensive to replace the cook top and wall oven with a range. So, if you're considering wall oven vs range, go with the range. 2) The rack supports are of the 'ladder-type' variety, not embossed (molded into the oven wall), and needed to be installed/mounted resulting in an even narrower space with ugly bolt heads showing. Some of my pans will not fit. 3) The racks do not slide easily . . . screech . . . it's like fingernails on a chalkboard. 4) The lights in both ovens are on the side wall and the top one is at eye level and blinding when the door is open. 5) There is a wide black space under the bottom door where the ovens vent, but it would have been more aesthetically appealing if there were actual grills. 6) A broiler pan is not included. 7) Takes a long time to preheat. 8) Doesn't seem to be very well insulated. Our oven is installed with a wall on the right side. When the self clean feature was used, the outside of the wall was hot, in addition to the bottom of the cabinet over the top oven. 7) The timer is the ONE feature I like as it beeps one minute before it's set to go off. Overall, very, Very, VERY, V.E.R.Y. disappointed for what I paid.

Nice features difficult to install

Our previous GE Profile double wall oven gave up the ghost after 20 years. It was great so we purchased the latest model of the same double wall oven. The features seem great.
Problem is with the installation. This was a replacement so it had to go in the same location as the original. The width and depth were the same as the old unit bit the height was 1/8 more than the replaced unit. Do you know hard it is to increase an opening by 1/8 inch?!?
The unit is hard wired to a 220 box. The conduit is 9 inches shorter than the old unit so to save GE a few cents; I had to have an electrician install a new box 9 inches closer at a cost of $75. Thanks GE!

Convection oven didn't work

I returned GE double. I tried every feature within the first week and had to have it serviced because the convection oven didn't work. Plus, it took 20 minutes to pre-heat. Also, the information booklet that comes with the oven didn't exactly coincide with how the oven operated.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
