Good quality scans, but clunky to use.

The scan quality is great. The scanner will not scan direct to macOS 10.14. Tried on more than one computer. The DSMobile software downloaded from Brother website for Mac crashed more multiple Mac computers on install. I have to deal with scanning to the SD card and then importing. The only other thing I wish this had was some backlight on the LCD screen. It is really hard to read the LCD in low light without it. I have other Brother products that are exceptional and this is the only one I have had issue with.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Horrible Customer Service

Although the portable scanner itself is a good piece of equipment, the service and support from Brother is the worst I've ever experienced.
The USB mini-port on the device broke off the first time I used it. Cold solder joints. It took me two days to get someone on the phone to help. The automated customer service voicemail system took me round and round without results. The only line that answered was software support. The two times when I got a tech on the line, they both told me they couldn't help with a hardware problem and didn't know who I could call.
After working my way through the complany, I finally got a hardware guy on the phone. He told me it wasnt worth fixing and said to throw it out and buy another one. I asked him to provide me with the warranty service address anyway. I took my chances and sent the device and all accessories back in the original carton.
I was surprised in a couple of weeks to get a new device. It was new in the box and had the software, the documentation, the memory card and the cable. No battery.
I called support again and asked about the battery. I was told that I shouldnt have sent the battery back with the device. I was told that this was my problem. I was told that I should have known better. She also couldnt tell me where I could obtain a battery.
I sent an email to Brother asking where I could get a battery, since the device is useless without one. So, I sent Brother another $50 to get a battery to replace the one they took from me.
Never again, Brother. Never again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Product & Service

I am a detail guy who has a tough time discarding information that might be needed in the future. I received a DSmobile® 920DW for Christmas and quickly went to put it to use - to save me from myself. I found that the battery would not hold a charge long enough to maintain the config to allow me to alter the config so that it would not shutdown when the battery charge was too low. This was a classic "catch 22." I worked with Brother service and ultimately, we concluded that the battery was defective. Brother quickly sent me a new battery and the device now works fine. Product design is nice and service makes the package great. Very portable and easy to use.

DSMobile is OK

I am not a fan of small format scanners in general, but the larger ones just are an incredible pain in terms of how much space they take up and how long they take to scan. At first, when I used it on my Mac Book, teh DSmobile 920DW seemed like a piece of junk. I just hated the way it behaved, the software tools, the lack of setup utilities, etc. I was even thinking of returning it. When I hooked it up to my PC, however, it behaved, EXACTLY as I expected it to. No fuss, no muss. It quickly and painlessly scanned all my loose pages and I am in the process of going about getting rid of years of paper clutter and getting them organized, which to my sad admission, I find fun.... It appears very no frills in general, but I am happy with how it performs when attached to a PC. Do not have much need for it outside the office. It takes up little room and sits on my desk just fine. The feeding mechanism can be described as a little finicky, but you quickly get used to it and it is no big deal unless you have some really ratty pages to scan. For a PC, for someone that has bare bones scanning requirements, I would recommend this. On the Mac, I wouldn't have my expectations set to high. It may work better on the Mac with different software.

Most Practical Purchase

Very practical. Does all the work as Receipt management, Document Management and is compact and portable. I don't use my larger scanner anymore. This does all the work.

I have a mac, was having a problem to getting it to work called several times to customer service, finally was transferred to their mac specialists. After being on fold for an hour, I decided it was not worth it and returned the whole unit.
