Doesn't work with macbook pro
on November 26, 2014
Posted by: dmcbriar
These issues happen whether the device is charged and connected via bluetooth or plugged into a power outlet.
Via bluetooth it connects and plays music for about a minute, and then the speaker powers off.
Plugging the USB cord into the macbook - no device detects under sound settings under either usb port

I've been a fan of JBL since purchasing my first set of Athena bookshelf speakers (Lancers with 14" woofers). I'm on my 3rd set of Harman-Kardon Soundsticks. I eagerly purchased the remaining Motorola EQ7 BT portable units, each with four 2" JBL transducers producing the most sound in the smallest package for under $100--the best value yet. And JBL maintained this quality with the less powerful but thinner and lighter, still great-sounding JBL OnTour iBT units.
The Flip, using 2 instead of 4 transducers, exceeded the power, or gain, levels of the OnTour, but the sounds of the piano--in frequency range, transient response, capture of the "harmonic series" of overtones--these were not as accurately represented to my admittedly fastidious, purist ears as they were in the preceding 4-transducer units. The Pulse leaves me with the same sense of disappointment as the Flip in A-B comparisons of Vladimir Horwitz's or Bill Evans' piano touch. And the "light show" fails to distract me long enough to forgive what I detect as a step backward in sonic fidelity (i.e. "faithfulness" to the original source). The sound is admittedly "bigger" but not necessarily "better" than that of the Flip, which simply is not as "transparent," or "natural," as the OnTour iBT and Motorola EQ7.
I now bring the Pulse with me on trips to the grand-kids. The light show and the efficient wireless operation of the speaker make my job all the easier when entertaining and educating kids who otherwise ignore "fidelity" and fixate on images, video games, and the words of the songs from "Frozen." On personal business trips, on the other hand, I couldn't ask for anything better than the light and thin OnTour iBT in my shoulder bag. In size and weight as well as performance, it's the perfect complement to my Macbook Air. I'm still mystified that Apple would throw three billion at an inferior headphone "marketer," Beats, instead of using their wealth and resources in conjunction with Harman's to produce custom-made, collaborative products representing genuine innovation in the world of mobile personal media devices which, at least up to this point, has been a willy-nilly competitive environment of mere hype and style. Beginning with my first Harman Kardon "iSub" back in the '90s, I had hoped that these two great companies would eventually merge as one unchallenged standard-bearer.

No Android App - returning it today.

My husband got this as a present for me. Unfortunately, he didn't realize there was no android app for this speaker, so although I might be able to connect and play music through the bluetooth connection (I'm not sure of this as I didn't try it), I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the lighting feature or equalizer, etc. Have to send this back to buy a different speaker.

The Android version of the app is available for download from the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.harman.jblmusicflow&hl=en

Not really Win8 compatible

Under Win8.1 I can connect the device but the JBL Pulse has some kind of auto-sleep function when it turns off. The problem is for short sounds (approx. 1 sec) (e.g. Windows notification) the speakers are ready, after the sound is finished. And this behaviour occurs even within few seconds. Since there is no Win-driver nor setup nor adjustment possible to change this behaviour I wouldn't recommend it as Win-speaker.

I got this delivered today, and haven't stopped playing with it. I hope they add more light patterns to the app though. You can only get the color pink when it's set to certain patterns. I wish I could get a pink/purple effect. It's loud enough that I think I'll be able to hear it over loud hot tub jets. I feel bad for anyone that bought that junky pill. Everything works with my note 2 just fine. Please add Pink as an option! It also sounds clear at max volume. I'm very happy with it.

Just bought the pulse after listening to speakers for the last 2 months. The response and separation of lows and highs is better than he beats and the price is a lot more consumer orientated than the Bose.
I got it home set it up in less than 3 mins and have been jamming ever since...a must hear for those audiophiles on a budget.
