WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO READ?

There are a lot of favorable reviews of this model on this website. What makes it worth your while to keep reading? I'll tell you what's BAD about this camera - it's too easy. Photography is an art. To learn the ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed takes time and effort. Using "Full auto" on this sucker helps create beautiful snap shots without knowing anything. Why is that detrimental? Because I'm taking a photography class from an RIT professor and it's hard to adjust from using "full auto" all the time, to manual mode and adjusting everything myself to create less than ideal photos. Am I serious? YES. This thing takes gorgeous pictures in JPEG mode when what I'm supposed to be shooting is RAW images in manual mode.
BTW: The flash really is terrible - just don't use it.

Pretty good camera

I got this camera for Christmas this year, after I was introduced to photography by a friend. My father has always been a photography enthusiast, and has owned multiple Canons in his time. It is a great beginners camera. Very easy to use, the instructions and directions are clear and to the point. Everything is reasonably easy to find. My main woe of this camera is its material. It feels like it was made from recycled Barbie dolls. The plastic is not durable feeling, and not very grippy. I have on multiple occasions come close to dropping it because of this. But other than that, it is a great camera. Photos can, especially when shot in higher ISOs, get fuzzy and blurry due to its not exactly up-to-par megapixel level, but this is expected from an entry level DSLR.
Pros: price, ef-s lens mount
Cons: cheap plastic material, megapixel count, sub-par shutter speed, low fps

Depth of Field

Got this camera to replace my older Rebel. It does take some nice pictures both manual and auto. Great for landscape, nature, and anything but close-ups. Over all it is a good camera for the money. The down falls would be no "depth of field" button and the flash isn't that good. I use a better lens then the one it came with, so I'm not sure about the lens it comes with.
The video camera on it isn't the best at all. Don't get this camera if you plan to do a lot of video films.
Great starter camera for anyone who wants to learn more about the art of photography or can only afford a decent cheaper camera right now. I would suggest if you want to take photography seriously and have the money, you should get the Canon 7D. If not, this one will do great.
Pros: price, picture quality, easy to use, iso settings
Cons: no depth of field button, flash, video camera on it

terribly slow

I bought this camera in February to replace an expired Rebel Xsi. I have been terribly disappointed in its a) inability to auto-focus in low-contrast or moving-target-situations, b) in its massively slow-to-nonexistent 'burst' in raw format, and c) in its clunky, noisy handling. It's death to wildlife shots.
I also dislike to the extreme not being able to change iso while tracking my shot. Instead, now i have to back away from the camera to change it via THREE CLICKS, while my shot saunters out of view.... NOT a happy camper, here!
But to be fair, when you can get things to stand still, provided they have sufficient contrast for the autofocus to find, it can take some very nice pictures. (Otherwise, be ready to manual focus. Which btw, may not be possible without purchasing an extended diopter-adjustment, for those with even a mild visual compromise. Something to check out at the store, before you purchase...)
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Camera

My Canon digital SLR took some use to get to operate all of the features. But after using it for a few hours at a party I finally got the hang of it. I like the lightness of the camera and the position of the buttons and the brightness of the flash especially for objects several feet away which came out very clearlly. And all of the images came out exceptionley sharp. I definately recomend this camera to my friends.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Difficult to use, Short battery life, Complicated controls/menu
I would recommend this to a friend!

Love my new camera

I have been very happy with my recent choice in cameras, I'm not a professional and just want quality pictures of my family. I"ve had a wonderful time just taking pictures and when they are developed there is never a bad one.
