Sch F appeared in my return, I deleted this blank form at least 4 times, but it remained through filing....
A temporary OVERRIDE on Sch C for an estimate would not clear Had to delete the whole Sch C and start over....
What's not so great: could not add a prior depreciation report to this return and have the numbers included in a Sch C

T-Tax 2013 Review - Home & Business
on February 2, 2014

All of the Pros and Cons noted above. I guess since it won't print out a FINAL paper copy, I will be forced to e-file. Maybe after I give T-Tax a review, it will release my tax forms. ??
What's great about it: Easy to go through all of the steps. Very straightforward.
What's not so great: I didn't have a state tax, but it kept asking me for it. Then wouldn't print out a final that didn't say DO NOT FILE.

I'm happy enough to stay with TurboTax, signed up for Advantage Member. I made one phone call to see if you could actually talk to a live person about a TurboTax question. I got answer, I didn't need any tax questions answered. Person was nice and polite and didn't have the answer immediately but got back with answer shortly.
What's great about it: I like the info help clicks to keep you informed and on track
What's not so great: Need to read what's available to know product, this takes time.

I WORKED MORE THAN 3 HOURS TRYING TO GET THE AUDIT DEFENSE OFF OF MY RETURN. I DIDN'T SUCEDE!! IF YOU PROVIDE A SERVICE I NEED TO GET OUT OF IT WITHOUT JUMP THROUGH A TON OF HOOPES. POOR DESIGN.
What's great about it: SAME AS LAST YEAR
What's not so great: I GOT TRAPPED BY AUDIT DEFENSE AND HAD TO PAY FOR IT BEFORE I COULD E-FILE

Overall, 2013 better than 2012, but finished product not commensurate with software price increases.
Section 179 review guidance confusing and could have been easily clarified. Appears not have been checked by independent users.
Tax advice lacking. User group type inputs are not always reliable and often relate opinions and not necessarily fact. Previous editions of TT ( I believe prior to 2010) provided professional guidance for standard questions and also made IRS publications easily available.
Backward link from State to Federal not apparent, e.g., received State employee pension credit and TT stated to correct input on Federal return. No direct link or instruction available for entering on Federal return. Had to call IRS for proper method of input.
What's great about it: 2013 turbo tax better than 2012 edition
What's not so great: Section 179 review confusing andreview lacked simplified explanations. Tax advice not professional
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

Sixth Year in a Row Giving me Outstanding Results!

I have been using TurboTax for personal income tax filing since 2008 and it has kept up with the inevitable legislative and IRS rulings that continue to tighten the screws on how we file. Our situation is complex in that we have jobs, we have a sole proprietor business and we have a farm. We also have income from an estate settlement and we have a rental unit. All of these used to be a nightmare when I did the forms myself. We finally moved to TurboTax and have not looked back. After sorting my shoebox of receipts and other input it only takes a day to get all the data in and the forms out for efile or mail. The best tool I know to assist in federal and state tax returns.
What's great about it: Cover all that I need for Personal, Sole Proprietor, and Farm
What's not so great: Some errors emerge that cannot be traced. Help is not much help in that it is all by Q&A wthout phone numbers.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

18 years w/ Turbotax and still going

Although anyone can use this product, for those with some business experience or accounting training this is an invaluable tool.
I have always liked Turbo Tax, for the past 18 years. The longer one uses the product, the more familiar one becomes with it, and the easier the process becomes. I don't look for comparable products because I still get the results I want. Each year, my return is accepted within a day or so, and the Federal refunds arrive very fast. The state refunds, less fast.
We always end up with a "Low Audit Risk" rating. In spite of this, we always buy the excellent "Audit Protection Product". My wife is not trained in taxation, so this gives her piece of mind.
For whatever reason, even though I had 2012 on this same computer, TT did not pick up the 2012 data for the two year comparison and for the Federal tax history report, though it picked up '11, '10, and '09. Perhaps they were already in the 2012 TT files on the machine, and 2013 used them, but it did not pick up all the '12 info for the history and comparison.
This year, for various reasons, (health, projects, etc) we did not file 3013 until January 2015. No worries, as we are owed a State and Federal refunds, as always. We plan our with-holding and estimated payments so that we always get a refund. A basic risk management strategy to avoid late-filing penalties. This will be the first paper return we have filed in I-don't-know-how-long, as e-filing season is over.
I see no reason to change products. I've never had an audit using TT, and my returns are always accepted as fast as the IRS can process them.
Of course as the program ages, there are more updates, of TT itself during the Tax season. The Federal updates are convenient to load, and the IRS seems to have more of them for '13 than I remember in prior years. This seeming increase in updates makes TT''s update feature even more valuable.
Now that I finally finished '13, I am going to download '14 and complete the '14 return by February, '15. Right after I complete some maintenance on my 2012 computer. Turbo Tax is one of the consistently great software products out there, and I am glad to have it every year.
What's great about it: Tax return error checking feature, Audit Defense product, comparison to peer group line item deductions and taxes.
What's not so great: 2013 did not transfer all my 2012 info on same computer
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

should include 1040SS so when people prepare and their address is foreign or US territory and they have self employment taxes, program should automatically use the proper form.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: no 1040SS
Pros: I bought or sold investments
