1) I loaded Turbo Tax on my wife's computer and my desktop. I registered on my desktop and tried to register the same on my wife's desktop. For some reason, it would not accept the registration on my wife's desktop.
2) The Kansas state Return had a space for Prime person and wife's phone number. My wife's phone number was imported from Turbo Tax 2012 and that one from Turbo Tax 2011. It gives not option to change. The Prime person's phone number is linked to the phone number on the federal return, but the spouse's phone number is not editable. This is a year after year bug and needs to be fixed. I even called the help line and they told me that I would need to do both ferderal and state returns from scratch to bring up an editable phone number. Please fix this bug. I have no intention of doing all the work by hand. One of the biggest reasons I use Turbo Tax year after year is the import data from the previous year.
Once again I found Turbo Tax easy to use. It had clear explanations on all the forms that I required additional information. Filing is extremely easy with e-filing.
Reviewed Federal return and ran "Error Check" 4 times before processing eFile but program found NO errors until just before upload. Not a happy camper. Especially if the eFile had completed and the return had been kicked back because of error.
There are many foreigners living in the US that have to fill out these forms properly. The IRS changes these forms yearly. TurboTax should make the explanations clearer on custodial, versus deposit accounts, show what you submitted last year first, not half way through you filling out additional account information, and make clearer what goes where. On my daughters and my tax form I entered the forms as required and both times it missed putting in Canada as the location of the foreign account but was picked up in the error checking. My recommendation is to make this section as clear as the rest of the TurboTax program. I am not comfortable with the new efile FBAR reports and that part is not even on the TurboTax forms or for filing. The "release of information" about your spouse so that you can do her FBAR is even more tricky as it isn't on the submitted form. Again TurboTax should prompt people on how to do this properly.
