I've been using Turbo Tax for many years and have found it provide easy guidance for entering data. The ability for it to import categories from the previous year eliminates reentering names and addresses of the payees since they rarely change. The reviews give you confidence in your input and the ability to save PDF files means that record keeping is easier. Filing is also easy. It is an excellently thought out program.
What's great about it: Easy guides for information input
What's not so great: Some of the dialog cannot be skipped easily
In processing a 1099-B, I had a problem with the calculation of the Cost Basis for the Stock, which had been sold. The program did not accurately calculate the value as it could not reference the original stock that the sale originated from.
I used to think our return was too complicated. I've been using turbo tax for a few years now and am amazed at how easy it is.
Two points of confusion to look out for: 1) Investment advisor fees were not automatically populated. Seems that that could be done. 2) I put in my Lincoln MKZ Hybrid info for a tax credit and it allowed me to do it even tho it doesn't qualify. I subsequently removed it. Seems like there should be an edit since there are a specific set of cars that qualify.
What's great about it: Tax filing has never been so easy.
What's not so great: The only con is that we have to file income tax returns! This software is outstanding.
