HSAs: UI flow of this is confusing along with output for Form 5329, section VII. Excess contributions from Employer. This copied from last year same amount from 2012. This did not happen this year?
State of WI is even more unclear for HSAs.
What's great about it: Forms, Audit check
What's not so great: Handling of HSA accounts, confusing
1. I tried to enter a Section 179 Deduction for expenses sa I have done for the last 20 or so years. Turbo Tax INSISTED I enter information for a car, that was not relevant. I was so frustrated, I gave up and forwent the deduction. 2. I made spelling errors entering the names of Charities. I could not correct the errors without deleting the charity and re-entering everything. 3. I wanted to try several "what if" scenarios for a new W-4. Turbo Tax insistedn changing me to "single" with 5 deductions, rather than what I wanted to do - "married" with an additional $100, or should that be $105 - I can't tell.
What's not so great: 1. Section 179 Deduction is wrong. 2. Can't correct spelling errors.
Software described my husband as 70 1/2 as if he were a first year IRA minimum withdrawer, when he is actually 75 and has been receiving his RMW for the last several years. Personal information showed his correct birthdate, so this should not have occurred.
What's great about it: I like the import of data from my last year's return and the multi-year comparison
What's not so great: Some confusion over IRA required minimum withdrawal section.
On the profile, on the occupation question, my younger children are H.S. student but the software asked questions as if they were college student.
My Review.... For year I have used paper but the last three years have used Turbo Tax. I like the idea of entering one value for charity for example, were I now entered them one by one. However, I gotten used to it and your software catches items I miss and it doesn't make math errors
What's great about it: Menu driven, save data from previous years. can jump around once you have gone thru the form.
