Another Good Year

Almost everything went well this year although my tax situation was as complex as last year. I use the Deluxe version and it has everything I need to report my investments and K1.
Just a few points of improvement:
1. The inputs for form 1116 Foreign tax credit are very poor and confusing. Apparently I didn't need to file the form to get the credit because my foreign taxes are less than $300 but the software did not tell me that and walked me through creating forms I didn't need and messed up my credit besides.
2. The entires for K1 are just barely adequate. There are a lot of details such as carryovers of credit that are not explained and I do not know what to do with this information.
3, Apparently you can no longer change any of the forms by hand if you want to file electronically, but the software does not tell you that. Any entries into forms use overrides which creates lots of errors. The software should do a better job of taking you to the right entry form if overrides are not allowed.

I like TurboTax because it walks me through my taxes in an easy way. You still kind of have to know what you are doing because if you don't have any clue as to what your deductions could be you could still screw it up.
What's great about it: Walks you though everything. Easy to use
What's not so great: You still have to know what you are doing or you could really screw it up.

The program was much easier to navigate,with some good explanations on what the program was asking for. Reviews helped me to correct wrong or missing information. I will keep on using Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Easy to go back and check my entries
What's not so great: Seemed longer than previous years. May be my age!

Getting better every year

Improved detail in the drop down boxes and the explaination. The step by step process also is a great to to educate you doing the preparation and help prepare you for next year.

Taxes done in weekend

Schedule E for rental property directly from Quicken saves a ton of time.
Errors in home office worksheet looked like bugs, but did not bother with support, as could remove with minimal impact to what I needed to pay, so simply removed that deduction.
What's great about it: Simple step-by-step instructions
What's not so great: Some errors received I could not figure out
