I never look forward to doing my taxes, but every year, once I sit down and load the software, I find it's always easier than I expected and that's a big relief. I'm a very busy professional, but I hate to pay someone else hundreds of dollars to prepare my taxes when, by the time I gather and figure out all the information, I may as well have done it myself! I love TurboTax and have been using it for years. I would recommend it to anyone.
What's great about it: Covers everything in a very easy-to-understand way
What's not so great: None, really
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved
Easy to use, it helps if you have a prior return to compare with. State returns require me to re-answer questions which is a hassle. Federal return is easy to maneuver through.
What's great about it: Loads prior years return.
What's not so great: Some explainations too brief . The State returns don't have the ease of review that the Federal return has.
I've used Turbo Tax for the past 3 or 4 years. We used to have a bookkeeper do our taxes, but decided to save money and do it ourselves. It has worked out well.
What's great about it: Well explained, simple to follow
Turbo Tax is very thorough and helps me to collect, step-by-step, all documentation. We moved in 2013 and gave away a LOT of accumulated stuff after living in the same house for over 20 years. The estimator for estimating value of donated non-cash goods was VERY helpful. We had done a thorough inventory of the goods, so I just walked through and put the quantities of each type and Turbo Tax took care of the rest.
What's great about it: Thorough steps remind me of potentially forgotten deductions
I'd selected to pay with credit for Audit Defense, Virginia eFile and had to enter name, address email etc. twice. Then again, to do this review, I had to enter my email and location, which I've already done twice.
