Ease of Use

There were two things I missed this year.
1) When I loaded Turbo Tax it never asked me if I wanted to update the software "now." I stumbled across something and realized I had to look for updates. I preferred it when Turbo Tax offered to update and gave me a choice of when to do it.
2) Even though I asked Turbo Tax to walk me through everything there were some items I had to find and open myself so it didn't really walk me through all the questions necessary to my successful filing. If I hadn't been vigilant, I would have missed these tax saving opportunities.
What's great about it: I like Turbo Tax
What's not so great: No suggestion to update offered. Not all deductions were offered even though I asked for Turbo Tax to guide me.
Please always leave the option to enter tax form information by the taxpayer PLEASE DO NOT TRANSFER INFORMATION FORWARD...!!!! I became frustrated with Turbo Tax because of this and the fact their was no explanation why you were doing this. You were transferring Federal Income info to the state form and no reason why. I had less than $2000 income in the state and did not understand why this state needed to know my earnings in another state. Please include an option to go back and select a different option. This was not available to me on the above problem. Once I selected "transfer Federal Info" I was locked in and could not change it. To many things change from year to year to transfer all info forward!
What's not so great: don't like transfer of info forward to next form
As in the past, this year's model does nothing but get better. Only areas of personal difficulty/challenge came from working within the Ohio Return section. Retirement and disability income input and taxation were a little problematic with this being my first year on both levels at mid-year. Also could use some more "up-front" clarification of who needs to file 'CCA' forms. Program auto loads the school district into the program, which is helpful IF you live in a district required to file these forms. Otherwise, it makes one think these are possibly required, but in reality are not. It is then a little difficult to navigate through this area to determine if forms are not required, and if not, how to avoid the information and form generation. Not too bad, but confusing and required double tracking a little. Overall- Again: THANK YOU TTax. Great job.
What's great about it: Overall inclusive and easy to use
What's not so great: State of Ohio Return lacks direct support information depth
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
A copy of the questions and their order would be helpful in organization of my data prior to starting Easy Guide. Currently Logic of the worksheet questions is not easy to follow. This would reduce my stress and greatly reduce the data entry time. I am a 23 year TurboTax user.
What's great about it: Usually Easy to follow
What's not so great: A gude to organizing of data prior to Easy Guide would be helpful
This is my 15th year of using TurboTax, and I have no reason to switch to anything else. I'm generally (more than) a little disorganized, but as my return has become more complicated over the years, I have learnt that record-keeping is the key to success. I develop complicated spreadsheets to help with my job, so it was easy to develop a spreadsheet to keep all my work expenses, etc., with everything separated the way I knew TurboTax would need the numbers. When I'm filling in my return, I can look at the first worksheet and get all the totals in each category. In the first few years, I would file away all my W2s, 1099s etc., and not enter anything into TurboTax until I felt I had everything. At some point, I realized that it was better to enter individual items as soon as they arrived, then eventually going back over everything from the top, to see if anything was missing. It makes the final effort much less daunting.
What's great about it: Asks all the right questions, has very good help facilities
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I have been using TurboTax for over 10 years and it is a great program. it has helped me get some of the best refunds in my life of filing taxes. I have recommended it family and friends.
What's great about it: easy, fast and extra help when you need it
