Have been using for at least 10 years. Works well and easy to use. Once and a while though I am not sure of the question they are asking me and as a result I am not always sure I entered information accurately. But in the end this is a small issue and on balance I have no problems. What happened to the free state tax-filing filing I received in the past?
This year I was unable to electronically submit my returns at first, but I waited a few days and tried again, and they went through just fine. It's the first time I ever had that problem, and I don't blame Turbo Tax for it -- it could have been a problem at the other end.
I trust Turbo Tax to take me through the difficult areas like reporting my business information, figuring the self-employment tax, and claiming depreciation, and it always does.
What's great about it: Easy to use, detailed info, can switch between forms and easy step
I love Turbo Tax, use it every year. I do have a problem with income on a 1099 misc--I host a dinner one night a month and am paid $75.00--it is not a business--I have no expenses except driving about 18 miles to the dinner--why do I have to claim it as self employed with business expenses?
What's great about it: Most is easy to follow and transfer of data from previous year
I'm hooked now, esp. as my tax returns become a bit more complex. I don't recall if there's a live chat feature with TT experts, but I'd recommend that added service! Otherwise, worth the cost, every time.
What's great about it: Careful guidance through complex elements
What's not so great: Sometimes difficult to return to specific part of return
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
It seems that each year fewer instructions are provided. This year the reminders to update were much fewer with no initial instructions as to why. In a year when updates were truly needed it took some effort to even find out how to download them.
Also there should have been some comment on whether a new PIN should be chosen or the one for the previous year used.
What's great about it: Overall, this is an outstanding piece of software.
What's not so great: Each year it becomes more directed to the experienced user. Keep in mind there are novices in need of more help.
I've been using TurboTax for many years. It gets easier each year. The program transfers my background info from last year to this year so I don't need to look up my wife's numbers. The only problem I have is with my city return. That part has never worked correctly. In the past it would take my W-2 city information correctly but did not add my wife's in. I had to correct by hand as I could find no way to enter the correct information in the program. This year all of my income was retirement income which is not taxable and my wife's paid city tax was not included. I will be doing the city return by hand again this year.
What's great about it: Everything was easily accomplished
What's not so great: City Income Tax not completed correctly
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
