Confused Filing
on March 5, 2014

Everything was fine until I got to the print and file by mail and it would say view and print or save as PDF and print. after selecting view and print, it showed what was to print but never printed. Had to go to File Menu and select print. This part was all messed up. It seemed like one of the updates forced you to select a Pin Number even if you were filing by mail. I was not happy with these items as I have been using Turbo Tax for what seems like 20 years and this has been the worst program.
What's great about it: Easy to follow for the most part
What's not so great: Updates seem to mess up program.
My income increased during the year and I wasn't aware that I was under my quarterly estimate. Some how you should have a quarterly review to prevent this
TurboTax is great, but it charged me for the efile of two states before it did a final check. After the final check, it informed me that I could not efile in one of the states. Please fix this. I chatted online with one of TT's reps, and she processed a refund, so no continuing issue.
What's great about it: Embedded knowledge, forms, and processes.
What's not so great: It charges for the state efile before it does the final check.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
Best yet, especially in working with military families living outside their state of residence. Have used TurboTax since it came out. It has it is great, regardless of version.
What's great about it: Easy to use, excellent with military living out of state.
There is no explanation in the Deluxe TurboTax software on how many times one can submit tax return electronically. I suppose that even if the IRS rejects a submittal it is considered a submittal and count against the number of times an e-file can be used. Bummer.
What's not so great: Deluxe software does not explain ahead before completing tax return there are limits on how many time one can E-file.
I received an error message when trying to e-file. Went on line and found several complaints about the same issue. After shutting down my iMac I was going back through the process of e-filing when low and behold I discovered that I had mistyped my account info for my bank. Once I corrected this error it e-filed without a hitch. I am very happy since this has been the only tax preparation software that I have used over the last 10 years. When switching from PC to Mac I didn't save my past tax info on this new machine so I started from scratch inputing all our personal data. Not a problem.
What's great about it: Everything was very simple, except filing.
What's not so great: At first it would not e-file my return.
I have always trusted and used Turbo Tax, at least for the last decade, however charitable deductions were unclear and did not yield any value on my return in my perception.
I will presume new tax laws are to blame however it does put a damper on next years charitable contributions as they appear to have no deductable value.
The penalty for filing as a proudly married couple of 35 years is also an issue as I watch my refund ticker go from green to red when my spouses w-2 information is added.
thanks
What's great about it: Relative ease of use
What's not so great: charitable contributions (auto donations) not clear in guidance
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
