The 1099-B from Fidelity says, " Long-term transactions for which basis is not-reported to the IRS -- report on Form 8949 with Box B checked and/or Schedule D, Part II".
Your 8649 and /Schedule D do not have a provision for Box B on long-term capital gains. So, I used the Box D option. Perhaps this is the fault of Fidelity's form.
What's great about it: Everything was well thought out and simple to navigate.
What's not so great: Possible glitch for reporting Long Term Capital Gains
This made my taxes so easy. I have always had a hard time understanding exactly what the IRS is asking on the tax forms and with Turbo Tax it took most of the lack of understanding on my part out of the picture. Tax laws are so confusing and this gives me the piece of mind that my taxes are done correctly without having to pay the price of and expensive accountant.
What's great about it: very easy to use
What's not so great: some things are a little unclear
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I have been using this product for close to 20 years now, and it makes the gloom of taxes a little brighter. I also love the way you can do it from the comfort of your own home, and at your leisure.
What's great about it: I love the details that your program digs into to help you make sure that you have left no stone unturned.
What's not so great: Sorry, can't think of any right now!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I have used Turbo Tax for years and years. Every year it gets cleaner, faster, and more comprehensive to ensure that I understand if I have covered every topic. I am able to do my taxes easily and submit usually the day the IRS starts accepting returns. There really is no reason to go to an accountant if you have a standard profile: (W-2 income, mortgage, charity, 401K, etc.). I have also used this software when I had my own business (sole pro.) and it worked great then too.
