This is the second year in a row I've used TurboTax. For the previous decade and a half, I filed my taxes myself. It usually didn't take that long, and I liked having to double check everything to make sure it was correct. But, now, I'm married with 2 step children, 2 houses, 2 cars, so TurboTax has taken a good 6 hour job and turned into about 1 hour of point and click. I couldn't say more, and with the deluxe edition, I can do my state taxes at the exact same time. Awesome.
What's great about it: Consolidated all the forms into and easy and logical order
What's not so great: They couldn't make my return any larger.
This is the 8th year we have used Turbo Tax and we couldn't be happier. Our friends who swear by their tax prepare-ers are always amazed by the refunds we get without paying hundreds of dollars.
What's great about it: We completed our entire tax return in just a couple hours.
What's not so great: Some of the explanations could have been clearer.
My return is fairly easy to fill out. However, I was notified that a form for PA general sales tax was not yet available and I would be notified when it was. After that, I encountered the "Updates" button.( It seems to me that in prior years the updates were done before the return was even started.) I proceeded on, thinking the tax form I needed would be included, and was then told my return was finished and ready to be e-filed. So I did. My mistake, as the PA tax had not been included in my deductions. Now I have to figure out if it is worth it to file an amended return. I think Turbo Tax should have reminded me that my return was not ready to be filed.
What's great about it: Easy to follow and understand
What's not so great: If a form is not available, have us wait to file
