I spent a few hours trying to figure out why Turbo Tax was not applying i-bond interest to education expenses. After a phone call to a tax expert, I was walked through a screen sequence that still tripped me up three times before I was finished. Good thing she stayed on the line. When I tried to efile, I could not transmit the file. The error message suggesting I download software updates (which I had done the day before and then did again) and mail in my return if that did not work was not very helpful. Fortunately, a helpdesk person was able to assist me. It was not easy to figure out how to contact a human being, but once I did, all the people I spoke with were helpful and well informed. Overall, my experience doing my taxes was more aggravating than necessary.
1099R pension data entry TT forced me into a reduced taxable amount for a 1099 R that was fully taxable. TT drives a traditional pension entry into a RMD discussion and I believe this is wrong, H and R Block at Home has no such problem. Using TT I had to try several different interview-question-answers before I landed on the full amount as taxable, as it was last year and every year since the 1990s. Because there is a set of answers that arrive at the correct taxable value, I believe the grammar was not clear enough for me to understand. Note that prior to 2013 I had prepared this person's taxes 8 years in a row using the H and R product.
another problem I pay my estimated taxes using eftps. Last year I mailed my return and paid the tax owed using eftps. According to all TT instructions there is no way to pay the tax owed using eftps when using efile. The only way to pay is by check.
great product in giving us confidence that we are accurately completing our taxes and hopefully getting a refund. I have been a Turbo taxer for years and love it. thank you bp
I have used turbo Tax for about 5 yrs and it has done a better job than the Jackson Hewitt or HR Block returns I have filed for half the price! It is easy to use, easy to understand, and I trust the logic.
I appreciate the automatic recalculation every time I make a change so I can stay focused on the data. The only problem I had was getting rid of a blank line in an address section. I could not find a help number (I was at the end of the filing process) so I entered redundant information so that I could move on.
